Title: Signature Blocks
Post by: Nolan Teel on September 05, 2009, 07:26:00 PM
Im curious to where/how people make the signature blocks with the different ribbons, badges, ranks, ect ect?  Is there a program?  I appreciate if anyone can offer some insight.
Id like to make one for myself.

As far as programs, this seems to be quite popular: http://www.militarysignatures.com/ But you may have to pay for it.

The simplest thing to do that requires the least amount of skill would be text that you have already and add a pic remote linked that you could possibly upload to the Gallery and the left aligned with table code like mine... Scaled appropriately of course.

The objective with any sig, even as simple just a few lines of text, is that it be simple, small and as unobtrusive as possible.  While a sig sometimes lends credibility to a poster i.e. name, grade, organization and unit... Who wants to have to scroll through your whole resume or an otherwise huge sig to get to the next post?  Worse if all you posted was a sentence or two, but your sig is five times as long.

I created mine using the Mcchord rack builder and a little Photoshop magic.

Yup. I used MilitarySignatures. The Lifetime Membership is only $35.00 and well worth it. So if I join the Army after Civil Air Patrol, then I can switch over my signature and put my Army Ribbons, Medals, and ranks.

I highly suggest this site.

You seriously paid $35 for a signature block image?  Seriously?

It is a lifetime membership. I can change it when ever I want. But yeah, I paid for it!   ;D

Not to pick the fly dookie out of the pepper, but it's C/Maj, not c/Maj (I don't know where that started).  Also, do cadets "retire"?  Wouldn't it be "Former C/Maj"?

Sir, I think it started with Army (J)ROTC cadets in CAP, because the Army abbreviates cadet in lowercase.

For those of you who don't have Photoshop, there are a couple of other FREE graphics programs that can do (effectively) all the same stuff...

The GIMP is the gold standard for a Free Photoshop clone:
http://www.gimp.org/ (http://www.gimp.org/)

Paint.NET is a Free graphics program just for Windows:
http://www.getpaint.net/ (http://www.getpaint.net/)

Either one of these will allow you to build your own SIG Block with no fees necessary.  Although I will add that MilitarySignatures.com is run by a disabled Vet and he does provide an excellent service.  Especially if you are not artistically inclined...
