The olive and navy flight suits on vanguard seem questionable anyone have experience and thoughts on them or have a better place they recommend? Also do most AAFES sew Velcro or do I need to find someplace one off? TIA

Do you want sage or navy?

www.flightsuits.com has the real deal. A bit pricey compared to some of the discount places, but you get what you pay for.

Very happy with mine from flightsuits.com ie Gibson and Barnes. Order the FSL 27/P Flight Suit in Navy if that's what you're looking for. Came out $50 cheaper shipped than Vanguard.

They have a body measurement form. Take it and have someone measure your. They'll tell you the size you should order. Mine fits perfectly.

If you're going with sage green, I'd just go with surplus and replace the Velcro with new stuff from vanguard. Much cheaper.

The "green" flight suit from Vanguard is more "OD" than sage. One look at the zippers and you know it's a knock off.

(Unless they've changed flight suits since one of my pilots got his from there)

I get mine on eBay, usually. Matter of fact, I'm downsizing to a 42L (yay, quarantine weight loss!) which should be here tomorrow, cost me $40 with shipping. That's where I've gotten my blue ones, too, but they're harder to find.

Sometimes it's hit or miss, obviously. But I've had way more hits than misses.

I ordered mine directly from Propper years ago. Still looks brand-new.

I ordered parts to repair my sewing machine (since you can't find a new machine like anywhere).  I am able to sew insignia and velcro for people again once the order comes.

Ebay's a pretty good bet, too. I prefer Nomex over cotton or poly/cotton, and nomex flight suits are a lot cheaper second-hand. As mentioned above, make sure you know your size.

I've gotten flightsuits that are practically new off ebay for as cheap as $5. I literally had to order three for it to be worth the shipping. Overall, I think it was like $23 total.

The only Velcro on them was for the nametag. Unused, unworn.

I can testify Ebay is the best method.

I can testify in eBay is the best method to acquire one. I have two, and I can say never paid more than $25, all original GI Nomex Green Sage FS

For non-Nomex corporate (navy blue), I have this one: https://tacticalgear.com/tru-spec-poly-cotton-twill-27-p-flight-suits-dark-navy

The blue one on Vanguard used to be Rothco and terrible. I don't know if they have upgraded to a more quality brand, but it's a little more than a dollar cheaper on TacticalGear. Also an excellent source for Blue BDUs (about $10 less than Vanguard for the same brand).

I have this same flight suit, it's definitely a better quality product than the Rothco alternative.

Rothco, IMHO, is just a more complicated way to spell Crap.

WIWAC in the 90's they seemed to be a lot better quality although still on the cheap side. The stuff they make these days though you're lucky if it's still in one piece by the time you leave the surplus store. They say they're a government approved contractor, do they actually produce gear for the military, and if so what?
