We have a guard member who likes to show up in his ACUs; I guess to impress the cadets. We call him "private" and tell him he's a squadron guest as long as he's out of uniform.

We had a C/2Lt a couple years ago that joined the National Guard. After he came back from basic, he started coming to meetings wearing his ACUs. He said that he was coming straight to the meeting from drill.  What he didn't know was that I was friends of his 1st Sgt.

After the second time, I told him that the meetings were a CAP activity, not a NG activity. I finally had to make him sign in as visitor if he was in the ACUs and reminded him that he could observe, but not participate if in ACUs.  I also instructed the other cadets to address him as Private if he was in the ACUs.  He was not a happy camper after that.

We are guests of Travis AFB and are not about to tell people who live there what to wear. Many people make it to meetings in civvies, and no one is ever discouraged from coming to a regular meeting. We encourage new members to buy a set of BDU's since that is what the Cadets wear 99% of the time, or at least a polo shirt alternative. Naturally, Cadet programs people wear uniforms, since they are the most active and enthusiastic members of the Sq.
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

Hey, if a senior comes to a meeting out of uniform 3-4 times a year I've got no big problem with that.  Things happen and I'm glad they made the time to come.

Where that crosses the line into being a problem is going to be different in everybody's book.

With all these clarifications, I am now hopelessly confused. You can wear a girl scout uniform to a CAP meeting if you want, but you need to wear a CAP uniform (of some kind) if you are in front of Cadets, flying driving, and other duties mandated by regulation. We don't discriminate against members merely because they are actual members of the Air Force and come by after work in duty clothes. We frequently have a Senior show up in his fire chief uniform too. Military Uniforms are not the UOTD. SM's usuallly wear their military Mess Dress to formal activities if they are active duty.

This is about the closest summation of my meaning.  As unclear as we all are on it now.

The CAP regulations specify when the CAP uniform must be worn, but don't immediately spout off with "Hey, you can't wear that to our meetings, there, slick...".

Common sense and good judgement.
