Could someone please fill me in on what the meaning of both REDCAP and SARCAP are?  (And, their differences?)

I tried looking in the 60-X reg series and could have missed it... and nothing on the knowledgebase.

Thanks for your time.

REDCAP used to be prefix before the precedence (Routine or Priority) for any actual mission traffic and usually used informally to refer to an actual search. SARCAP was the term we used to use for exercises. We now call them SAREX's.

In every-day speak, we'd simply refer to real missions as "REDCAPs" and practice missions as "SARCAPs".  Obviously out of context, but it was a shortcut for saying "an actual real deal mission".

They still use the terminology in the scanner and ground team logbooks sold by Vanguard/CAPMART/Bookstore
