This is my Armstrong essay, it is 467 words. I did it on the prompt 'The Difference between Leadership and Followership. Any comments, criticism, and/or feedback would be greatly appreciated

There are many differences between leadership and followership. One of the greatest differences it that you must first be a follower. To be a leader, there are many skills that you must obtain before you can even attempt to lead others.  First, you must know what to expect from those under your leadership, secondly, you must be able to take constructive criticism graciously, and work hard to change for the better.  Most importantly, you must be able to lead yourself.
Knowing when you to push those under your leadership can be difficult. You should always expect the most from those on your team, yet you should give them room to work things out for themselves. They need to do mistakes in order to find out how to fix them. It can be hard to let them make those mistakes when you know what they could have done to not make them in the first place. Pushing them to make themselves better and to always go that extra is your job. Leadership is not for your personal benefit. It`s for the benefit of those under your leadership. Your job is to train them to be the next leaders. So figure out when they need to be pushed and when you need to let them make their own mistakes.
Being told that you are wrong or messed up can be hard. When you have given a lot of time and effort to an idea or project, it can be difficult to graciously accept the constructive criticism offered to you.  Especially if it is being offered by someone whom you are supposed to be leading.  However by learning to take it graciously and then working to change the issue you will earn respect, from both those you are being led by and those whom you are leading.
Before you can be a team leader, you must be able to lead yourself. There are three main parts to personal leadership; self-management, develop a decision making process, and time management. If you are going to manage a team, you must be able to manage yourself. If you are going to be making decisions then you must be able to make them quickly and efficiently. If you are going to need to get a group of people, whether it is small or large, to a certain place, by a certain time you must be able to manage time.
There are many differences between leadership and followership. One of the most important ones is that you must be a follower first then become a leader. You must obtain the skills of knowing what to expect from those under your leadership, you must be able to take criticism with grace, and you must be able to lead yourself. Leaders are not born, they are made.

My edits are in BOLD BLACK.

One thing I learned in Air Force ROTC, whether it is making a presentation or writing a paper, tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you told them. Intro, body, closing.
Still a major after all these years.

Exactly - it's "imparting an idea" not "writing a paper".  Think about that.  it's an important distinction and
separates the "complies" with the "excellent".
