I Help Non-Profits | Michael Kieloch, Marketing Communications & PR Leadership
« on: February 17, 2015, 02:43:25 PM »

That's right, ladies and gentlemen. CAPTalk has been providing a discussion platform and professional forum for Civil Air Patrol members for just over a decade now.

In early 2005, Jerry and I realized that Civil Air Patrol members had no national-scope platform to discuss all matters related to CAP. CAPBoard had closed down and the original "CAP-talk" listserv (no affiliation) was long gone. We created CAPTalk.net with the intent to create a professional learning community that could serve as a resource to new cadets and senior members as well as more seasoned members. The concept was simple: people in other parts of Civil Air Patrol undoubtedly have had the same questions, solved the same issues, developed better ways of doing probably everything, and had brilliant time-saving/money-saving/more-effective ideas.

We've grown from a site with only a handful of personal contacts to a community with more than 6,200 registered users who've contributed more than 360,000 posts in more than 17,000 topics which have garnered 63.1M page views. A pretty substantial body of knowledge and discussion (even if a solid slice of that pie is probably about uniforms  ;) ).

As I have in the past, I'd like to thank everyone who contributes to CAPTalk in constructive ways. I'd like to thank the moderating team whose tireless efforts in reading every one of those posts have helped to keep the forum clean, constructive, on topic, and above board: MIKE (Mike Johnston), CAPSGT (Michael Crockett), dcpacemaker (Daniel Pace), and JC004 (James Colgan). But thank you also to each of you who contributes through participation. CAPTalk doesn't become the resource we intended it to be (a role in which we hope the site continues to grow) without your active contribution: posing questions, sharing ideas, debating, and contributing your knowledge and skill set to other members and units.

Ten years is a long time for a website to run (especially on essentially the same software and set-up), but we don't see any signs that the site has outrun its usefulness or is finding itself obsolete in the face of different technologies. Nonetheless, in the coming decade I hope CAPTalk does evolve and continue to improve itself as a community and resource to CAP members everywhere.

Thank you for your participation and thank you for ten awesome years. Here's to 2025!

I think you're talking about more than just the f5 key. I'm sure you mean multiple keyboards

Certainly, but since Eclipse has a few years or so of "online" time here, a lot of it is probably page refreshes.  >:D

Interesting.

I look at the stats and my most popular hour is 0400. CAP Talk and bacon, what a way to start the day.   8)
