"...Volunteer Organization searches for Aircraft Parts.

At the request of the National Transportation Safety Board, twenty-eight
members of Illinois Wing of Civil Air Patrol spent a long cold day on
Saturday the 27th of January searching for additional engine parts from a
corporate aircraft that experienced an engine failure on the 12th of
January.  The search concentrated on the neighborhood northeast of Midway
airport near where one part previously had crashed through the roof of a
residence.  The search teams worked from 6:00 a.m to 6:00 pm combing the
public areas, streets, alleyways, yards, and rail beds.  One part was found
by Michael Hatkevich, a 17 year old Civil Air Patrol cadet.  Other critical
parts remain to be found..."

(this will be posted tonight on the ILWG newsblog, so its not a secret anymore.  We were asked to be quiet about this to discourage the general public from moving parts in hopes of a reward.  Since we spent the day in field gear tromping aorund the near South side of Chicago, and at the end of the day left leftlets in many mailboxes, its not exactly a secret anymore)

What tickled me even more was that a sharp-eyed cadet, our own USAFAUX2004 found the part.

The NTSB was very impressed with our response and professionalism, and in addition to providing a legitimate service, this will go a long way towards fostering a good image of CAP with 4-letter agencies.

Now, the trick is to see the part in the picture!  ;D
