I used to have the original issue VA CAP license plate; numbers began with 3-xxx for VA Wing, 9-xxx for NATCAP Wing members residing in VA. Mine was 9-030.
I don't have one, but I have seen them in Maryland.

Probably. They'll likely switch to just the red prop on the white triangle and blue circle. Or, if we are unbelievably lucky, the CAP seal. But I know there are regulations against that.

I have to say from all the pics posted, I like WI the best. It looks like you guys are limited to a 3 or 4 digit number. In WI they have 6 digits and you can personalize them for an extra $15

The real rub is that they issued Square Dancer plates before Veteran's... No, I'm not making this up. Anyway, back to the topic....

I think we should have four cars with CAP plates driving in formation, each one from a different state....

Admit it, you were going to say four vans, but then realized that getting 4 (functioning) CAP vans in one location for anything other than an encampment is almost impossible.
Speaking of the missing van formation... shall we get Maj. Brodsky to drive?

The big problem with the CAP seal is visibility - using the image size available on an plate, it's very hard to decode the CAP seal. The MAJCOM patch is much more visually distinctive.
MD plates were originally all text and moved to the MAJCOM.

Oklahoma has a Civil Air Patrol tag. This image is from OK Tax Commission's web site. They are the folks that issue the tag.

Wisconsin's don't extend any privileges, but they are another "get out of jail free card". I've heard horror stories about police in other states, but in WI, if you have military|EMT|firefighter|police plates the cops tend to leave you alone out of professional courtesy. That and I have a bunch of firefighting/police window clings on the back of my truck from when my dad(firefighter) and step-mom(police) owned my truck.

Ah... but you never know... Masons carry a lot of weight here in the Northeast. Especially if the cop is a member himself.
I also know that the NYPD is very unlikely to pull you over if you have emergency vehicle tags. They usually don't know what CAP is and won't take the chance of it being someone important like a politician. By unlikely I mean they may give you some headroom in speeding or missing a stop sign, not driving in the oncoming lane at 60mph. The NYPD also tends not to bug government vehicles. City, State or Federal. Mostly because you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you.

Helps if you're driving down some one-horse town in Oklahoma (namely, Colbert, Tushka, Stringtown and other towns on the way to Tulsa on US69/75) whose main revenue stream is speeding ticket collections.)
I got bagged once in Coweta outside Tulsa - got off only with a warning. Couple of days later I visited Coweta Lodge and noticed on the past master wall that the cop who stopped me was a PM of that lodge. Helped to have the S&C on the back windshield, I guess. ;D

Thats just because Washington is kinda anti-soldier, pro-liberal.
The problem in getting organizational plates is that the sponseringorganization has to put up the initial fee for the plates which is about $25,000 and then has to have a certain amount sold at between $25 to $40 every year in order to keep them in production. Personally I prefer my "Free" Purple Heart plate to a $40/annum Civil Air Patrol plate.

Quote from: News Article
Florida legislators consider more specialty tags
Sunday, March 30, 2008
MIAMI (AP) - Several groups are looking for a green light for their specialty license plates, but some lawmakers want to put on the brakes on new designs.
Florida already has more than 100 different license plates celebrating everything from the oceans to organ donation and the Olympics. But this legislative session more than a half-dozen specialty license plates have been proposed.
Some lawmakers say the proliferation of the plates is a problem, but others can't seem to curb their enthusiasm for the tags.
Part of the reason for the explosion of tags is they're popular with the public, and groups come to lawmakers requesting their own designs.
But some lawmakers argue that as the number of tags increases, it becomes harder for law enforcement to quickly get information from the tag.
Those lawmakers would like to place a three-year moratorium on new plates issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Sorry David......I hate to say this....but Indiana has way too many plates as it is. Plus if every senior and cadet over 16 gets one the state will only sell about 700 plates they need to know for sure they will sell thousends.....so whats in it for the BMV they won't make enough money to cover it? This was pretty much what I heard from the BMV when I looked into it in 2006.

Does AZ have a CAP plate available? If so you should be able to go in and simply fill out a form to change your plate over. If youre referring to the Guard one I have above, CAP has no way of getting those, I was just posting what was on the back of my POV.
if the state doesn't presently have a CAP plate, how would we get the state to adopt one, sorry, I worded badly
Check with your Dept of Motor Vehicles. The process varies between states.
Given the size of the potential "market" for CAP plates I'm surprised that any of them ever got approved. Many states are beginning to really hit back hard on approving new plates for small groups that will probably never use all the ones the prisoners stamp out. I suspect that we're probably going to lose some of the ones we have.
As posted earlier there is a minimum number of plates that must be sold, generally a minimum of 5,000. In addition some states require that the organization pay the costs of the dies, which is another several thousand dollars.
I always thought it'd be cool to have a front plate with a Master GTM badge, like the way they do parachutist and aviation badges.

I had everything except the patience. But I guess there's no point in making a special plate for AZ since the wing is so small, thanks anyway.

Jordan,
You'd probably have more luck getting something like this through as it's more in line with the rest of the Military Support plates. Just my $0.02, YMMV

Your Plate has a stripe looking alot like the Coast Guards......
I like this one better. I am from Florida and I have my Army plates but I would change them out for the CAP ones if that is what they were
Agreed, but would like to see "Civil Air Patrol" centered in the white area instead of centered on the entire plate.

I always thought it'd be cool to have a front plate with a Master GTM badge, like the way they do parachutist and aviation badges.
Like this:

I'm surprised that Vanguard actually missed a chance to sell even more crap to us.
Not like them to miss an opportunity like that.
^
And we will then see this on the NHQ website tomorrow morning........
"And breaking fresh on Vanguards website this Friday will be the Pre-Order Screen for CAP license plates. And By the way, we are sending out C&D letters to all states DMV's or motor vehicle bureaus for trademark violations" >:D
I am new to this but is National really that bad?

Occasionally?!? Thats an understatement......
NJ just got CAP plates after years of trying. The holdup was the members since we needed a certain number of "pre-orders" before the state would print them.
I got mine in the mail on the Christmas eve. Nice early gift.
We have CAP plates here in Wisconsin but they're pretty bland.

And with the frequency of command emblem changes, outdated twice-over.
still have one though :D

Thats why you surround them with bumper stickers...lots and lots of bumper stickers.

I like this, but I think the red stripe has to go, in favor of silver gray. The blue should also darken up a bit, to match the blue in the shield. Remember that the fewer colors that are used, the cheaper the plate is to make -- sticking with red, blue, gold and silver gray should be quite enough (four spot colors).
The type needs to be centered between the holes in the plate. Other than that, it looks good to go.
I agree about the stripe -- too Coast Guardy

I did a search but couldn't find it. How about a picture for us?

If they went with their original design, here's the site and a pic:

It's not listed on their DMV website, though. (Just like their USCG AUX plates.)

The CG Aux plates are listed under specialty plates.

D'oh!
Thanks for pointin' that out!
That's the plate, but instead of "USAF Auxiliary" it says "Civil Air Patrol".
