Title: Officer Resignation
Post by: Hyperion on March 04, 2017, 06:21:37 AM
Good evening all,

How does an officer resign gracefully without resorting to "ghosting"? Is there a preferred method? Are you able to rejoin later if you resign? Are there any files that I should copy before I hand in my letter, e.g. PD training / levels? I have no experience on how to do this and request guidance.

Thank you all for your help.

Are you resign the CAP as a member or position. Anyway
Here is a extract of CAPR 35-3. Membership Termination.

"8) Voluntary resignation. Individuals wishing to voluntarily resign their membership
must resign in writing and sign the resignation request. E-mail resignations may be accepted as
long as they are received from the individual member and include the member's full name and
CAPID. The signed resignation must be attached to the CAP Form (CAPF) 2B, Personnel
Action Request-Termination of CAP Membership, submitted to National Headquarters."

As above, which applies to all adult membership categories.

There's really just the above, other then converting to Patron status.  Please make sure to provide your Unit CC
the email or letter of resignation. NHQ will not allow "voluntary resignations" without it and
then you become a ghost. One line suffices.

Your ability to rejoin will be subject tothe same membership board and acceptance by a unit CC as
a new member, beyond that, yes.

Printing out a "Member Search Report" from eServices (link is at the top of the page) wouldn't be a bad idea,
and of course you are allowed to view / copy your personnel file at any time, so if you want to make sure you
have everything, you could request that.

Ive rejoined 3 separate times after simply letting my membership lapse. Probably not the most "graceful" way to do it, but it never affected my ability to rejoin.
