At $279 each, you better not let the wife see your credit card bill...

"Honey, this says you spent $279 on a mug. I think they misplaced the decimal point.."

"No, babe, thats right. Its my Tactical Mug of Awesome!"

"You'd better have gotten a kevlar helmet with that thing, cuz I'm gonna start beating you over the head with your $300 solid aluminum beer stein.."

$300?!?!? I could design that and have it machined out of a solid billet of aircraft grade T6 aluminum for cheaper than that.

Go for it. If its less than $100, I'll buy one.

Of course, it should come with an M-4 carrying handle. And be numbered and engraved with my name.

Their website says it starts out as a 13.5 pound piece of aluminum.

Yeah, let me know who your machinist is. I had some simple water jet work done (some rectangular holes in an aluminum plate, and it cost $50.

In thinking it through a little more I couldn't beat that. Too many setups and shop rates are $75+/hr around these parts. Now if you'd settle for a high strength plastic I could design that and have it run through a rapid prototyper...

A skydiving buddy of mine would probably do that in his shop for giggles (read as "my buddy" rate), but it would cost me a pretty penny just in raw material.

I don't care to think what a sufficiently sized billet of aluminum would cost.

5056 T6 here is running about $2-something a pound. It's a killer that you'll be converting over half of the round stock that you buy to scrap.

Hey if you can talk him into it I'll draw it up in exchange for one. All I'll need to know is how tall you want it and what liquid capacity you'd like. I'll even make sure it has proper picatinny rails so you can add that A2 upper or a surefire or maybe a laser dot...

Heheh. Laser dot. Keep the cats amused while you're slurping down a cuppa...

Lets think about that. I think that mug as pictured is too darn big.  Thats a serious "Oktoberfest"-sized stein.

Plus, without an insulation gap (vacuum), all that aluminum is gonna act like one big heat sink, sucking off all the coffee heat and radiating it to ambient.  no good for a coffee cup.
