BOMBING PRACTICE IS SET BY CAP PILOTS

The upper Valley unit of the Civil Air Patrol will hold its second aerial bombing exercise at the McAllen Municipal airport, R. C. Hausinger, Mission, squadron commander, announced.  Members of the CAP held the first bombing practice about three weeks ago.  At least three airplanes and possibly four are expected to take part in the program Sunday.

CAP CADET PARTY ON SATURDAY NIGHT

Civil Air Patrol cadets of the Fairbanks Squadron are having an orientation and get-acquainted party Saturday evening for all members, CAP friends and those interested in knowing more about CAP cadets.  The party will be in a reception room of a residence quarters building at Ladd from 7:30 until 10:30 p.m.  For information on the building location, interested people can telephone CAP cadet Jan Fink at Ladd 22251 or CAP cadet 1st Lt. "Eaglets Fly as Gals Apply"

Headline from Time Magazine, 2 paragraph Article from Aug. 1943. It covers the Civilian Pilot Training Program and CAP (which were often co-located) working together to turn out more pilots and CAP letting women apply for the Patrol, for the first time. I know the term "Gals" is disrespectful but I'm just the messenger.

Interesting Find recently at a local Thrift Store for a dime - 1946 Tennessee Wing, The Reconnaissance Reporter Newsletter, with photos & stories, 10 pages, original era, October Edition.  Probably common, but cool nonetheless!

  • Cadet Bivouac at Graham Field in Centerville, TN
  • Knoxville Air Show Sponsored by CAP TN Wing, with b/w pictures of GT, Comm., etc
  • Lt Col Whelen TN Wing Commander announcing the Air Show on Loud Speaker
  • TN Squadrons & Members News
  • WWII TN CAP Coastal Patrol Base Uniform Patch Illustration

Thats a great find --- not common at all.  I bet the number of existing 1946 CAP newsletters is very small.

WOW!! Great find.  McAllen still has an active Cadet unit there.  I'll forward this to Brownsville.

We just found some (16mm?) films from the 1950's.  Projector and all.  We viewed the first one of CAP activities at a navy base.  Will be looking at the other films as well.  Might be a good donation to national.

FlexCoder

Pumbaa, any chance you can transfer all the films to YouTube or a computer format for us to see & use before they are buried in the vast vaults of National?

It would be great to have some actual footage regardless of the quality of CAP in it's infant years to create some cool animated effects in 3ds Studio Max for various CAP promotions online.

Major Carrales,  I have more news articles from Texas in regard to that unit and others if you want the info.  They are from the only 1943 Mission Texas Newspapers that are known to exist in paper format today.

Once we take a look at the films, we'll see what can be done.  I agree, I would hate to have it buried without a chance for the rest of CAP to see it.
