Title: Vintage Prop - any ideas?
Post by: Eclipse on October 17, 2010, 05:01:36 PM
Has been hanging in our space at UGN for as long as anyone can remember:

I remember seeing that at my very first meeting as a prospective new cadet.

Also remember seeing the radiological equipment from the other thread. :)

Check the prop with the radiological sniffer .. ;-)

Looks very similar to one hanging in the pilot shop at one of the nearby airports, and .. she's got no clue what it was from. Doesn't have any holes drilled in it though. If the ceiling were not there it could spin.

I am almost old enough to remember, but I don't.  Would guess that it might be from the 30s.  Our airport was built in 1935 or 36 and there is a similar prop hanging on the wall out there.  Somebody from EAA might have a clue.

What is the question here? It's a wooden prop, still to be found on many aircraft, a J-3 for example. Wooden props were pretty standard om light aircraft up until the 1970's. And they are still being produced.

I was wondering the same Eclipse.

Are you asking what to do with it, or what it would have been used on?

Length could help determine the latter.

Are there any markings on the back near the hub?

Just wondering if anyone could identify it from 20 feet.

No markings on the back.
