I am planning on applying for encampment for 2020, and I will be on vacation till the day before the event. I was wondering if this would be possible, because if there is anything that needs to be done in that time frame. Thank you for your help!

Presuming you're applying as a student, you'll need to make sure you're packed properly. Follow the packing list instructions. Don't bring anything not on the list. ESPECIALLY DO NOT BRING ANYTHING ON THE PROHIBITED LIST!!! Some items on the prohibited list may get you turned over to the security forces (COWG encampment is at the USAF Academy Prep School). Many other things on this list will get your parents called to come get you.

You can pack everything before your vacation so you're ready when you return.

PS. I'm on the COWG Encampment staff.

Heed the above, and bear in mind, most encampments cannot allow for being late, so if you're literally getting off
a plane and driving to encampment, plan accordingly.

This is a question that should be asked to your Encampment staff.

If you have a travel problem and find you will be late-call the encampment staff to let them know. Call means actually talk to someone and get their name. Doesn't mean email, text, or messaging. Encampment requires completion of 80% of the course, so being a few hours late shouldn't be a problem as long as the staff knows ahead of time.

Thank you all for the replies! I will be getting home the day before, so that should be fine. I was wondering if I needed to have 6 tan shirts, because I bought a 5 pack a while ago and was wondering this will cause anything during the shakedown. I presume this should be fine, but I just wanted to make sure.

You need to have everything on the packing list, if you don't you'll likely lose points during the inspection(s).

There are no laundry facilities at the COWG encampment. Plan accordingly. You'll be wearing ABUs/BDUs and blues on various days. The list was developed to provide for adequate hygiene.

#1 --- The contraband shakedown is to check for prohibited items that you were not allowed to bring with you (medications, knives, etc). They're not counting how many shirts or pairs of underwear you brought.

#2 --- You really need to be checking with your Encampment staff for these kinds of questions. While this forum is a good resource for general questions and best practices that can be answered universally, your Encampment may have specific rules/requirements in addition to the National-level standard; so you want to be sure to talk to your Encampment team about any issues or accommodations needed.
