Code of Conduct

  • The  discussion boards are intended to be an open community where all Civil Air Patrol members can participate freely.  However, keep in mind that a certain level of professionalism must be maintained on the discussion board.  Therefore, we have a code of conduct which all members will adhere to.

  • Members will refrain from using profanities, coarse language, or sexually based or suggestive materials.  Members will neither knowingly post links to web pages that contain these materials.

  • Members will not attempt to circumvent the profanity filter.  There is a filter in place which attempts to prevent the most objectionable words from being posted on the site.  Any extensive use of blocked words or attempts to circumvent the filter with alternate spellings, characters, or by other means is not acceptable.

  • Members will not engage in libel, slander, name-calling, or personal attacks.  Members will not post any hateful material about any person, unit, or organization.  There is a line between leadership examples and scenarios, or having constructive discussions about problems without naming names, and attacking others outright.  Personal threats are also strictly prohibited.

  • All members will respect the opinion and dignity of other members, whether or not they may be present.  Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and certainly discourse on varying opinions is excellent. However, members will not attack others based on their opinions and beliefs, regardless of whether they agree or not.

  • Members will not knowingly make false or misleading statements with the intent to deceive or confuse others.

  • Members will not impersonate anybody else.  This includes a ban on falsely stating your grade, rank, position, membership status, or any other personal information.  Members not wishing to use their real name may choose their username as a pseudonym, but will not create and use any other false names.

  • Only one user account is permitted per individual.  Members of the same household may have separate accounts, however they should be kept clearly separate from each other.   Members found to have additional accounts may have those accounts deleted without warning, among other actions.

  • Members will not post any copyrighted material other than work they hold rights to.  Members will not claim any work to be their own that is legitimately not (which includes lack of proper citation for source of quotes, ideas, and material).

  • Members will not discuss nor engage in illegal activities via these discussion boards.   The trade of unlicensed software, software registration information, virii and other malware, and criminally-oriented information is prohibited.

  • Members will only discuss matters on topic for the forum in which they are posting.  Members will not make blatantly off-topic posts or attempt to derail legitimate discussions. All topics must relate and be of interest to CAP members in a professional aspect.

  • Please use proper spelling and grammar, as some homonyms have very different meanings.

  • The administration and staff of the discussion board will be the sole judges of whether or not any conduct violates these rules.  These rules are not comprehensive and the administration or staff may deem any other behavior or content to be inappropriate as they see fit.

  • Members violating the code of conduct may be subject to any number of sanctions, including but not limited to: warnings, temporary suspension of posting privileges or account, temporary restrictions from certain forums, public admonition, alteration of post count and/or user rank, account deletion, and permanant ban from the discussion boards.

  • Members are solely responsible for the content of their own posts and hereby release the discussion board, its administrators, moderators, staff, superiors, subordinates, affiliates, officers, employees, workers, family members, executors, and other associated persons from any liability and hold them harmless from any claim or demand, regardless.

Thank you for your cooperation and we hope that your experience here is enjoyable!

At this time, I feel it has become necessary to remind the CAPTalk community about our standing Code of Conduct, which has been in effect since our community opened.

Professional decorum has deteriorated on the board in the past few days.  Please remind yourselves that this is a public discussion board.  Members of the community, national headquarters, cadets, parents of cadets, and potential members all regularly browse these boards.  In addition, be cognisant of the professional behaviour expected of CAP members in public.

While open discussion is always something we like to encourage, bashing other members (or any individual for that matter) is not tolerated.  Name-calling, ill-wishing, and other unacceptable behavior will continue to be moderated.

Also please recall that the primary purpose of CAPTalk is a professional resource for CAP members to share information, tips, resources, and ideas.  We are not primarily intended to be a rumor mill or to be the Civil Air Patrol water cooler; Jerry and I would much rather see more discussion along these lines.

Finally, as a good housekeeping reminder, please stay on topic.  If your topic starts to drift, or you develop a new topic you'd like to discuss, please create a separate, appropriately-titled thread.  This not only keeps things tidy, but helps build a well-labeled archive of discussions for current and future reference.  Remember to search for recent threads on a topic before you start one to see if the idea has already been under discussion in an existing thread.

Thank you all for your cooperation and your contributions to CAP and the CAP community.
