Paul Creed III

Dave Stone, 71, passed away in the early morning of December 27, 2017.  He was born May 5, 1946 in Akron to the late Nicholas and Elizabeth Stone.  He was a 1964 graduate of Lake High School.  Dave had a passion for history and art and worked as a freelance artist for the Akron Beacon Journal before joining the Summit County Sheriff's office, where he proudly served from 1977 to 2016.  Dave was very active in the FOP Union 139, serving at a past president, treasurer and trustee.  He was also a delegate for both the state and national lodge conferences for over 20 years and was nominated as Man of the Year for the Ohio State Lodge.

Dave loved life and put his heart and soul into all he did, both on the job and for his family.  In his free time, he loved to perform for kids during the holidays at the mall and he did work with the Puppet Guild of Northeast Ohio.  In 2001 Dave joined the Civil Air Patrol and was active in Composite Squadron 278; later transferring to Squadron 096 and attaining a grade of Major.  Dave had two rare gifts; his sense of humor, and to reach people in a deep and positive way.  He used these abilities to their fullest.

Dave is survived by the love of his life and soulmate, Eve Stone (nee Brinkley); daughter, Erin (Vincent) Marbais; grandson, Dante; sister, Barbara Scarbrough; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Robert Campbell Training Center, 2825 Greensburg Road, N. Canton, Ohio 44720 with Chaplain Glenn George officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made in Dave's name to Adopt-A-Family, C/O Summit County Sheriff's Office, Attn: Brittany Marshall, 53 University Ave, Akron, Ohio 44308.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
