I am working on a photo processing program (http://captalk.net/index.php?topic=8256.0) and with a gps vendor who will soon be able to insert direction-of-travel information into the EXIF photo data.  This will allow automatic creation of the "Camera Direction" value and hence the north arrow on captioned photos.  He will be providing the direction relative to true north.

So ... where declination is significant are you guys captioning the photos with true or magnetic bearing to the target?  It seems like true is the most logical thing to do, but I have not seen this issue appear anywhere.

Yes.  And the beta testing is going quite well.  We'll probably be ready for an initial release in a couple of weeks.

Down the road, we hope to expand use of gps tags to infer target location from camera location and direction-of-travel data.  Hence the work with the vendor and the question.
