Our unit has outlined its goals by quarter.  Sicne ours is a growing unit, we try to establish reasonable goals that can be accomplished or worked toward.  Those of you that graciously accept out unit's newsletter can get a gander at them.

Last year we had goals by month.

Does your unit set such goals?

Your answers will provide me with much insight.

Please advise...

Our unit is developing a strategic plan that not only outlines immediate goals for TY-07, but will also set a direction for the squadron for the next 3-5 years. It will of course be reviewed annually (and revised if required), but in general this plan will set the direction of the squadron for some time to come.

We are in the development stage now, and we still need to get input from many members (a stratplan requires commitment from all involved, and as the saying goes.... no involvement, no commitment).

Basic format for the plan will be as follows:
Mission Statement (restated from the CAP Mission Statement, localized to the sqdn)- the "why"
Vision- The End State
Goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Tied to a Timeframe)- the "what"
Objectives for each goal- the how"
Activities (as required) for each objective

Yes, regular review and reassessment of set goals is a must in our CAP world which is flexible by nature.

Thank you for the "rubric" for the goal setting.  Back in 2005 our unit's then handful of officers and cadets (literally 5 persons) made a list of gaos that was considered to "idealistic and based in other than reality."  The list contained things that many woudl consider to be regular CAP protocol.  Still, it was called unreachable.  We made it, despite those concerns.

In 2006 we redoubled our efforts and now we have the basis of a really good unit.  They key was staff and recruting.  We now plan by Quarter and are doing pretty well by it.  Once a quarter we reevaluate our missions, goals and plans.

Thanks...
