Civil Air Patrol
The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a congressional chartered, nonprofit organization of volunteers devoted to the development of aviation through education, cadet youth programs, and emergency services. As the official auxiliary of the Air Force, CAP willingly and effectively conducts approximately three-fourths of all aerial search activity in the inland area.
The Civil Air Patrol provides SAR mission coordinators, search aircraft, ground teams, personnel on alert status, and an extensive communications network. When these resources are engaged in a SAR mission they are reimbursed by the Air Force for communications expenses, fuel and oil, and a share of aircraft maintenance expenses. In addition, CAP members are covered by the Federal Employees Compensation Act (FECA) in the event of injury while participating in a SAR mission.
The AFRCC maintains an alert roster provided by the CAP wings in each of the states and the AFRCC is the central point of contact for CAP participation in SAR missions. The AFRCC also works closely with CAP national headquarters and directly provides inputs for CAP training in emergency services. The Civil Air Patrol is the AFRCC's prime air and ground resource in the inland area, especially for extended searches.
Without Civil Air Patrol's highly dedicated personnel, the United States Air Force would find it very difficult to fulfill it's mission responsibilities in the 48 Continental United States.

That hasn't changed in years. I remember reading the AFRCC website back when I was in 8th grade and reading the same thing.
But, it's nice that they still <3 us.

Figured as much, but thought I'd still share
Good to know they haven't deleted it...yet. One telling clue to the age of the document is the reference to Mission Coordinators.
The AF still loves us. Now cut us a check for a bigger budget. Or at least better vans in Ohio.
I keep praying for a minivan. Tallahassee is so far out in the middle of nowhere that it costs me at least $100.00 to go anywhere in our E350...usually with only a couple of people. A mini-van with a trailer hitch for a small utility trailer (for our gear if we manage to fill the van itself) would be perfect.

There are probably 4 mini-vans in OHWG now, give or take. I do know of one 15 passenger nice E-350. Too bad it'll never be used where it went.

2006 Ohio Wing Encampment. The Wing AEO took my old unit's van to Encampment because they were all wanted down there. A few days after it was over, I learned that the van (1990 Dodge Ram) had really messed up the transmission. Had to wait a month to go to Wright-Patterson to get it. There are few vehicles in OHWG that are road worthy. But transportation isn't my problem, so I just stay out of it.
Gene, when I served as Wing Transportation Officer, I sent out an email asking Groups for a wish list of vehicles. Not one wanted a mini-van. They all wanted 15 pax vans. Besides the mini-vans that were in use had poor maintenance records. They seemed to spend more time in the shop than on the road.
My old unit had a 7 pax Aerostar which just got replaced by a brand new E350 12pax (removed the last row of seats) The aerostar wasn't bad for small ops like UDF and stuff, but considering the unit has 60-some people, they needed something just a smidge bigger.
