Now that the election is over and the Democrats have promised to cut the military's budget, possibly by 25% according to Congressman Barney Frank, how will that affect the CAP budget, considering how we are funded by the Air Force?

Now that the election is over and the Democrats have promised to cut the military's budget, possibly by 25% according to Congressman Barney Frank, how will that affect the CAP budget, considering how we are funded by the Air Force?

It's impossible to predict how a possible budget cut of uncertain size, scope or probability will affect CAP.  In the past, reductions to the AF budget have been reflected in reduction of the funding the AF provides to CAP.  These types of things fund plane and vehicle purchases, ES training funds, Cadet O-flights, the Free Cadet Uniform project, national publications and other member services.

In the event that CAP's funding from the AF is reduced, it's possible you may see that reflected as FCU funds running out earlier in the year, less aircraft or vehicles purchased, less O-flight money available, staff reductions at NHQ, etc.

We are looking at an appropriated budget cut for FY 2010 of about $4.1 million.
In every year though, congress restored the funding.  However, these are different times.

Keep in mind the possible cutbacks are at least 1 year away. The budget for 2009 is already set and the 2010 is well into formulation.
