OK CAPTalkers, we're in trouble. One of the regulars according to NOTF is in the running for National Commander. How do I delete all my posts before he sees them??????

Look on the bright side - he's gotten alot of ideas from everyone already. He has some knowledge about many of the troublemaker ACTIVIST members already.

on second thought, you're right. We're screwed

FW

No, you're not in trouble...

On a side note; I don't remember so few stepping up for such important positions in the last 20 years.  I know the work is difficult however, that's why we have over 61 thousand members to help out.  Our membership needs not to worry about getting "shot down" when properly stating opinions on how to improve CAP.
We may not be a democracy however, we are an organization which is of benefit to its members and, IMHO, the members need clear channels of communications to express concerns.  CAP Talk has been a great informal method.  Now we need to understand what the "chain of command " really means in CAP.

Leadership has a duty to understand what needs to be done to accomplish the mission and, that can only be done with a clear understanding of member needs, organizational goals and, oh yes, what that mission is.  And, after 34 years of "living" with CAP (22 of them in leadership positions), I have a good idea where we stand.

Seems to me that the last two CAP members selected have been from a "minority" race/ethnic class.  Will this continue with this selection period ???   How strong is CAP diversity goals and how does it affect voting for a National Commander & Vice Commander ???   Again my comments are not against (or for) any of the candidates above BUT it just seems that way from my membership time in CAP.

I highly doubt that race or ethnicity play into it at all. No one cares what race or ethnicity someone in leadership is so long as they can lead well. Any one who thinks that it does needs an ethics check.

Well, when you have people like Ray Hayden out there writing a bunch of trash about you, true or not, kinda makes you think twice.

FW

When you run for a national level position, I would think you would need to think more than "twice" before dealing with what will follow.

The exchange of ideas should be welcomed.  Dissent should be embraced and, a true focus of what needs to be accomplished must not waive.

Hope that doesn't end your posts.....I've really enjoyed your insight.

Okay just a question.  What is NOTF? ???

Col.  Weiss, if you end up becoming the national commander, will we still see you on CapTalk?

Best of luck sir.

Col. Weiss ... if I had a vote, you'd have it, sir.

I think the establishment of a structure and culture that allows for the exchange of ideas and seizing on the untapped potential of the greater membership is of the highest priority.

Technology should also be embraced.  There is no reason that CAP cannot only catch up to industry standards but also innovate in this area, setting a higher standard.

Drucker did quite a bit of non-profit sector work.  I have a lot of his things in my collection.

JC004

With a the new election, I posted a BUMP on the topic of what you'd do if you were National Commander.  People have an opportunity to make proposals that will be seen and possibly implemented, so discuss.

Best of Luck. Col. Weiss.  CAPTALKERS are a varied bunch...hopefully I have made no offenses over the years that are not irreparable.

For the sake of history, I recall the unfortunate instance of another regular CAPTALKER who was once made a WING COMMANDER for a day and then was never heard from again. :(  May that never be repeated.

I have heard from Col Weiss that he plans to have all of the black vans repainted as white, with consistent branding, and distributed to the units, so I am sure wing commanders won't be disappearing.  heh heh.   >:D >:D

Can you tell those of us who don't know about what is going on? Is there a general election where all CAP members get a vote (doubtful) or .... ? I'm still new to CAP and trying to learn about this. Is there a regulation(s) you could point me to?

This is an election for National Commander and National Vice Commander by the corporate officers (wing and region commanders, as well as half a dozen national staff - these all make up the National Board).

We are asking members to support Col Weiss with their National Board members and to begin engagement which will hopefully lead to taking the members' thoughts, ideas, and talents - putting them into action with Colonel Weiss as National Commander.  Members will have the opportunity to ask questions, get answers, and begin the process of member engagement that will help the organization go forward.
