Which of you CAPTALKERS is going to San Diego???

Maybe we should all try to get together?

I'll be there as of Wednesday morning for the G1000 class.

AS of the moment, I'm attending the G1000 class. I have not worked out forking over the additional dough for the rest.

Gotta figure out parking or decide if I want to use the train/trolley to get there from Oceanside.

Chappie

Arriving late Tuesday afternoon -- a meeting all day Wednesday -- and then the Conference.  I think you will be able to spot me out in the crowd.  I will be wearing a blue uniform most of the time. ;D

Yeah, parking on site is $24/ as has been relayed, day pass on public transit is less than that. :)

I'd really like to addend the conference itself.. probably be a long time to get a chance at it being this close, ever again.

The overall expense from the east coast as well as other expenses just don't justify in my mind going to this.

Most operational & administrative training should be held at the wing or in geographic region(s) that make it cost effective for the member to attend.  Not sure what this really accomplishes other than perhaps getting more people to show up than otherwise would.

Personally, I think all of these meetings (including wing yearly conferences) need to get reviewed as to whether they really are needed.

Unless you driving or flying in your own aircraft, ANY commercial flights are a big hassle today, especially if it isn't a direct flight.  That's why technology such as computer/telephone conferencing is really taking off for both business meetings & training.

Came down a couple of days earlier so we could visit our son and daughter-in-love.  After arriving yesterday afternoon, had dinner last in the Gaslamp District (Old Spaghetti Factory)...this evening dinner at La Pinata in Old Town (a great place to look around).  The guys are going to the Midway tomorrow and the gals are going shopping.  We figured that since we have been to Sea Port Villege before...we will have ample opportunity to go there during the conference.  On another note, our son works at the Marriott Marina (we are staying at another Marriott property until the the conference begins which is closer to their home).  Checking in on Tuesday for the events at NB which for me begins on Wednesday.

I saw your posting on Facebook about that -- I hope you're enjoying yourself!  The Midway is definitely a must if you're in San Diego.  Each time I've gone, there have been more and more areas which have been refurbished and opened up to the public.  Great stuff to see!

I can't tell exactly, should I presume that all the activities are at the hotel, or are there any also at the Convention Center?

Since I've never parked at the Convention Center for any other reason than going to it, that said, I'd just figure the parking is not available when there is not an activity within. Is that not the case? ~$10 is certainly cheaper than $24. But the Coaster and hoofing it, or a couple Trolley stops is usually how I get to anything in that area which has tended to be Padres games for our Color Guard presentations, or  the Civic Theater.

The Midway Museum, or museums in the park tend to get driven to, as it's usually with cadets in tow.

I'll be running.  Be kind and give the geezers like me the right of way.

And the reason you got lost last year in Dallas may well be that the rest of us were running in San Antonio.  8)

San Diego is easy .. if you're going down hill, your going back to where you started, if you're going up hill, you're getting further away. If you're lost, just go up hill a little so you can see where you need to be ;)

I wonder if Vanguard has learned about bringing the products likely to be in demand at the conference.  Their first time at the PAWG conference, they were out of anything useful by first thing in the morning on the first day.  They had a ton of Colonel stuff, but very little company grade.  Uh?  It was a WING conference... There were likely to be only a handful of colonels - FW, outgoing Wing CC, incoming Wing CC, like one past Wing CC, Region CC...

They did have the sword, though.  The cadets liked that.  The only thing useful that I got out of it was smiting them for the order of mine that they had CANCELED, then KEPT the money for MONTHS.  I was like "uh...you have my money and I want it in product...today."

Don't worry, that last CAWG conference they didn't even bother coming, they packaged up a bunch of stuff and just sent it. Same scenario as described for the PAWG conference. Hell, the CAWG folks even put together a list for them, did they abide? No. They sent a bunch of crap that didn't sell.

"We have too much Colonel insignia.  Let's send mostly that."

Yet you're not allowed to compete with our WONDERFUL vendor.

Vanguard has been good for me, though.  That is because people know that I used to get a lot of used/bulk/etc. items and sell them, so people call me to see if I have something first.  That way they don't have to deal with Vanguard.  Good business.  Thanks, Vanguard!
