John Robert Weiss, age 92, of Montgomery, AL died at his home the morning of Friday November 3, 2017. John was born December 7, 1924, in Chicago, IL, moving to Augusta, GA as a child. John Weiss graduated from Richmond Academy then entered the Navy as a Naval Aviation Cadet during WW II and was discharged as an Ensign in December, 1945. He was active in the Civil Air Patrol and his interest in aviation continued throughout his life. He will be remembered as a ham radio operator and a life time member of American Radio Relay League. John's work resume' included a variety of fields and interests including seventeen years with the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller in Montgomery, operating a cylinder gas plant, selling silos, owning/running a motorcycle dealership, designing commercial bus boards for Westinghouse in Atlanta and a self-proclaimed wire twister (engineer) for Alabama Public Television. His other interests included automobiles, water sports, music, and Biblical history. Mr. Weiss is survived by his wife Paula Lewis Weiss; sons John Herbert Weiss III (Dr. Donna Adams-Weiss) , Robert Graham Weiss, and their mother Irmgard Frenzel Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents Virginia Brandenburg Weiss and John Herbert Weiss and by his brother, George Graham Weiss, of Chicago IL and Augusta GA.
