Maj. Roy Hofheinz, Jr.
11th Composite Squadron
California Wing

Roy Hofheinz, Jr, 87, born on December 18, 1935, in Houston, TX, United States, passed away November 03, 2023. He resided in Rancho Mirage, CA at the time of his passing.

SPECIAL NOTE:

California wing and Squadron 11 has recently lost an outstanding member with whom we all may have worked with in the past.

Maj. Roy Hofheinz passed away November 3, 2023.

Major Hofheinz joined CAP and Squadron 11 in 1990 where he served ceaselessly until his passing.

He was best known as an extraordinary air crew member and "Comm Guy" who built and maintained mountaintop repeaters, set up mission bases wherever and whenever needed.  As a Mission Observer he was prompt to answer the call, frequently "wheels up" within an hour of activation. Over his 33-year CAP career, he filled many posts and earned many finds, distress finds and other awards and commendations.

Outside of CAP, Maj. Hofheinz was an accomplished executive, author and academic who earned his Ph.D. at Harvard University. He served as a professor of government and as director of the university's Fairbank Center for East Asian Research.
