The last time I went through my Army field gear (just after retirement), I discovered a couple of items that required a late night trip to the "amnesty box" at Camp Roberts.

Whoops.

Remember kids, always check your gear on a routine basis for servicability.

(and the presence of contraband.) 8)

BTDT.  But with pryo (I couldn't use with CAP).

I'm what's called a "gear queer".  I had the saying gear adrift is a gift.  Lots of the stuff I have that I didn't purchase, I can honestly say I have no idea where it came from.  Like the K-pots.  My wife wears a small, but I don't.  Back when we met at an ARNG armory, they decomissioned one unit and brought in another.  They were basically throwing gear at us.  I'm sure there should have been some paperwork, but that's their problem.  :)

Too...much...gear?

I don't think men are allowed to string those three words together in a sentence or acknowledge that
they can be by a woman.

Ask here if she has too much jewelry.   ;D

Seriously, though.  It might make a funny picture to see you wearing it all at once!

Along those same lines, I was starting to get my paperwork in order to work on my taxes last night.  When I was going through various categories and got to "Charitable Donations", my wife said, "What?!? You spent how much on CAP?"  My response - Honey, it's a write off.

I am not sure that was the best response.

^ Hey....use it!  Use the milage, the food expenses, the uniform purchases.  USE EVERYTHING.  However, my Accountant said that this year there are stricter guidelines for stuff like this from the IRS.  If you don't have receipts you can't claim it, no exceptions (unlike previous years, where the IRS gave us the option to claim up to $600.00 without receipts).

"Stuff" you're not supposed to have (generally ammo and / or brass, but often more serious "contraband" items, particularly if its the amnesty box at the reception station at Basic Training).

I still have several grenade pins. Oh well.

Just as long as you have a place to stick it all...

PS: Tell you wife that it is "life saving equipment"

My wife is niether large or big.  She is 5' 2" and wears small short BDUs.  I really don't know how much she weighs and I'm sure she would kill me if I knew and put it on here.

I've given away or sold all the gear I don't want/need.  Everything I kept is stuff that you can't buy anymore, stuff I need, stuff I just can't let go of, or stuff that I need to hold on to incase the government comes knocking and want it back.  Just because they didn't ask for it back doesn't mean they won't want it back one day.

QuoteJust because they didn't ask for it back doesn't mean they won't want it back one day.

I had a bunch of GI issue type stuff with me one day....My cav unit was deactivating and I brought out my bag of "extra" items just in case I was missing something I wouldnt actually have to pay for it.  Some of it was never asked for gear some was CAP acquired etc etc

bad idea....

The supply NCO said if I cant produce a reciept it must be issue stuff I never bothered to return...and into her bag it went....

Lesson leaned never have anyhting but whats on the paper and never get rid of anything because "...nobody asked for it back"

Cadet Williams- are you leaving the program?  Don't forget that if you got the blues as part of the FCU program, you need to give them to the unit.  Also, if you checked any of those items out from the unit, they should be returned.  What comes around goes around.

My problem is I can't bring myself to stop buying things. You'd think that once I had everything that was basically necessary for any activity I would be done. Nope, it's always time to upgrade or get new toys to play with. Oh well, the Mrs. is OK with it as long as it is limited to one closet.
