Title: IACE 2011
Post by: ES Ninja on March 17, 2011, 02:24:04 PM
Hey everyone: who all has been selected for IACE 2011, which country are you going to, and why did you request it?

I was selected to attend the UK, and I requested that country because 1) it has a lot of interesting background, 2) it has a lot of neat places to visit, and last but not least, 3) I'll understand everyone, because they speak English too! :-D

Congrats!  I'm not going this year, but I went as a cadet on IACE to the United Kingdom (and specifically, England) back in 2003.  It was an outstanding experience.  The Brits really rolled out the red carpet and put together a busy schedule jam-packed with memorable experiences, and we traveled all over the country.  I have no doubt you'll have a blast!

Congrats on those who were accepted. I guess I didn't make the cut this year :P

I wouldn't count myself out just yet.  People often drop out after being selected as a primary.

I knew a cadet who was an alternate one year. On the day IACE paricipants were scheduled to arrive in DC, he received a call asking if he was still interested and if he was there would be a ticket waiting for him at the local airport for a flight leaving that same afternoon.

Don't give up hope.

Wow! That is amazing. I would love that to happen. At the same time, I will be at Cadet Officer School, and I know that, will be a great experience. I wouldn't want to miss either :P

Cool! I applied to COS too, back at the beginning of December (when I don't think the dates for everything were finalized). So now that I have IACE and I've realized the dates conflict, I'm looking for an RCLS to attend. I've heard they are pretty good too.

Yes. I have been to an RCLS. They are super fun. And the changes that they are making are gonna make it even more prestigious. Have fun in the UK :P

Ok I know IACE is awsome but you are going to miss seeing Liam and myself at COS!

Awww! That's too bad. Y'all have fun at COS! (I'm just an alternate for it anyway) Give berets a good name, and say hi to Liam for me. :-)

My day was so made today!

I just received an email saying that I have been moved to primary for IACE! As you can imagine, that was an amazing  email to read :)

Anyone else here going to Canada?

'GWN' being..?

"Great White North."  That cold, desolate expanse of land that includes territories like "nunavut" and 'Saskatchewan."

The IACE groups that go to Canada get split up and go to different regions.  Did they specify which one you're going to?

I'm sorry for the little bit of ignorance..

No, they haven't specified yet. I will tell you when they do though!

Kids these days...I bet you don't even know who Bob and Doug are...sad really...

Best of luck!  Me, I was born and raised in Saskatchewan, worked about 15 years in Alberta before moving southward.

And one point...Lieutenant is pronounced with an "f" up there... ;D

Congrats, that's awesome!!! A guy from our squadron went in 2009 and had a blast. I've heard Canada spends more on their IACE program than any other country participating.

Fine...if I can find good Alberta beef down here, I'll take it anytime (and you'd be surprised how much beef is Canadian down in the US).

Gentlemen, I created this thread for 2011 IACE participants to get to know each other. If you would like to debate the qualities of each participating country, please do so in another thread. Thank you.

I had some pretty awesome food on IACE-Turkiye 2006. I don't remember the beef, but the coffee was pretty darn good, and I really appreciated how they had cherries (or at least cherry spread to go with bread) with pretty much every meal.

Be prepared to step outside your comfort zone.

Potentially way outside.

Even if you're "only" going to Canada or some other English-speaking country.

You don't have to go to Turkiye, Hong Kong, or Ghana to encounter food and other stuff that's completely new to you. As they say... it isn't good, it isn't bad--it's only different. :)

There's always Vegemite down there in Oz (Australia). If you forget what it is, it's not bad.

There "where" in Canada can be important for that one...there are parts of Quebec where you'd be hard pressed to find an English speaker.

I am not going, however, I just found out one of the places was Israel. That would be my number 1 first choice.Actually thought of moving there as a citizen, but, I would miss the US of A too much.
