Patrolman John M. Borges of Taunton Police Department, 48, of Taunton passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 after a courageous battle with COVID-19. John was born on the island of Terceira, Azores, Portugal. He was the son of Joao V. and Rosa O. (Azevedo) Borges, both of East Taunton. John and his family immigrated to the United States when he was eighteen months old, and had a great love for the United States of America. Mr. Borges was a graduate of Taunton High School and went on to work with the Taunton Police Department for over twenty years. John was a search manager for the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Councils Search and Rescue Team (SEMLEC), as well as a lead trainer for the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency. He was also active with the Civil Air Patrol. John was a firearms enthusiast, an avid collector of police memorabilia and he enjoyed learning about the history of law enforcement. He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. In addition to his parents Joao and Rosa, John is survived by his sister; Luisa Borges of East Taunton, his goddaughter Abbigail, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind his extended family at the Taunton Police Department. Mr. Borges was predeceased by his adopted son Private 1st Class Paul E. Conlon Jr.
