Those involved in the historian specialty track have to attend a day-long workshop on historian-related tasks.  CAP doesn't have such a workshop and while I there probably are some local history training workshops that could meet the requirement, there is an option for an online training workshop.  Is anyone familiar with one that might be appropriate to meet this requirement?

If someone had a BA in History, I wonder if it might be useful ?

I did one of the classes here.  I believe it was the data preservation.  There is no certificate or anything when you're done, but I screen shotted my progress when it was done and showed it to my mentor who signed off on my track checklist.

I highly recommend The Basics of Archives online course (http://resource.aaslh.org/view/basics-of-archives/) presented by the American Association for State and Local History. It takes 15-20 hours to complete, within the four-week course period, with no required times to be online. It's a broad overview, and just the introduction that I was looking for.

Description: The newly revised Basics of Archives online course is designed to give organizations and individuals who are responsible for the care of historical records an introduction to the core aspects of managing and protecting historical records collections, using appropriate principles and best practices.

The course consists of five lessons:
     > Archives and Archivists
     > Acquiring Your Collections
     > Processing Collections
     > Housing Your Collections
     > Access and Outreach
- See more at: http://resource.aaslh.org/view/basics-of-archives/#sthash.bVLk9Zxq.dpuf

Cost is $85 for AASLH members, $160 for non-members. I recall that it was slightly cheaper to become a membership and get the member rate.

I printed out the lessons, and it fills a 1.5" binder.

I see that a course started today, and the next course begins 15 December.
