I just got the current issue of Florida Wing's newsletter WingSpan and made me curious about how many wings have something like this.  If not your wing, what about your region?

I'm really impressed with this one and it certainly saves costs by using email/online versions of the newsletter rather than printing and mailing.

I've seen squadron level newsletters and thought it wasn't necessary as most people already know everything because they attend the weekly meetings and I can think of a lot more important things than spending time putting togeth a squadron newsletter.

In CT we have a blog. I've only seen my wing send out one newsletter a while back.

NYWG produces a nice newsletter a couple times a year.  Here is the most recent one (big PDF).

I don't see the point of doing squadron newsletters.  That's what E-mail and web sites are for.

I produce a Squadron newsletter, its main purpose is to be utilitarian.  To have new and information that can be "ready referenced."  In fact, it is more of an almanac.

Here is one that featured Hurricane Ike...

By the way, be sure to also check out Capt Arthur Woodgate's Texas Wing Group III newletter there.  His is e-based.

By the way, we are sort of on hiatus until 6 January 2009.

Producing a squadron newsletter is part of the PAO track.  It is supposed to be published quarterly, at a mimimum.

A squadron newsletter doesn't have to limit it's audience to squadron members.  Parents, significant others, co-workers, etc sometimes find value in a quality newsletter.  It's also a good way to beat the drums about topics that are important, like completing NIMS training, for members who don't attend every meeting.

Sometimes finding content can be a challenge.  In my case I depend heavily on input from squadron members.

As I have too much time on my hands, I frequently am on the hunt for wing and squadron newsletters on the web and download those that are published on a regular basis.  Based on that (and not accounting for those that are not put on a web site), it appears that less than half of wings have newsletters and at the squadron level I'd estimate it at less than 20%.

Some Wings and Squadrons seem to get bogged down and forget to print one. When I say print I also mean even e-issues, A couple that I read have not been updated since Aug. Even some squadron web sites have not been updated in over a year.
:(

We always used to put out a news letter monthly. Copies went to other Squadrons, Groups and to Wing

There's one squadron in CT (not mine) that publishes an outstanding weekly newsletter. The Thames River Composite Squadron's Coastwatcher is created by their AE guy, a retired teacher with a passion for aviation.

CA wing is just getting back into the newsletter/magazine thing.  They have the Bear Facts, I think it is called.  I have only seen one edition of it so far.  My squadron also puts out a quarterly newsletter run by the PAO however there hasn't been an edition of it in about 6 months that I have seen.
