So, I'm at the Base Exchange at Moody AFB today and I notice something on a rack saying CIVIL AIR PATROL.  It was a combination pack that included the below coin and knife for $25.00.  If I would have known what they're selling them for at The Northwest Territorial Mint website, perhaps I would have bought one.  They had an AF pack with the same thing, but there was only one CAP package left.  Guess they're pretty popular.

Now that's a sweet knife. I don't think I've seen that on Vanguard's site. Kinda makes me wonder if I could find it at WPAFB. The coin is pretty sweet. It looks like you could inscribe something on the eagle side.

There's a bunch of these on eBay available right.

Maybe if we all buy one they will start putting things we need in the clothing store.  ::)

They had ads for 'em in the Volunteer not too long ago.

They have them in the BX at Patrick, too.

I saw this posted yesterday.  When I got home last night, my wife handed me a small box and said "congratulations on your promotion."

Inside the box was one of these coins with the back engraved - she's such a sweetie.

But what are the chances?

When I got promoted, my wife gave me the evil eye for spending $50 on new rank insignia. ;D

You know what?  Looking at the knife, I regret not buying at the BX.  Especially since the online price is $15 more, and that's without the coin.

I love the detail on the knife, with the ground team member holding the DF.  For some reason, it reminds me of my time as a cadet in the 80s.  Maybe I'll have to get one next time I'm at the BX.  Will be at Lackland next month anyway.

you know what's funny?

by regs, we are only supposed to buy uniform items at the BX. . .

I only mentioned this because we had a guy try to buy a whole slew of stuff at the BX, and when approached by a Manager, raised a fuss.

Lots of damage control on that one.

Not funny, but sad.  Not the BX shopping privilege, but the CAP dude raising a fuss.

Good thing I'm a CAC carrier.

To a degree Im of the opposite mindset.
I recieve full BX rights through the CGAux. (At CG or Navy Bx's only)
CAP should recieve full AAFES rights. No having full access from the USAF is something I consider a slap in the face.

I saw this a month ago at the BX at Macdill AFB.  It was located in the lawn and garden department.

And I disagree there.  Then we'd have folks joining CAP for the sole benefit of shopping at AAFES.  Just because you're in CAP doesn't mean you spend 10 to 20 hours a week doing CAP stuff for the Air Force.  And while I was active in CAP, spending about 20 hours a week dedicated to CAP, there are inactive members who simply pay dues who would have the same privileges as me.

Maybe a benefit of sorts could be offered after a minimum of 5 years of active service, but I could see people joining just for base access and BX shopping opportunities.  Heck, it was a big enough fight back in the late 90s getting Commisary privileges for the Guard/Reserves.  Or maybe while on competent orders for CAP or the Air Force, like during encampment or activities; and then be in a CAP uniform.

We already have this, the caveat is that we must be using government quarters at the time. (AE: at SLS and staying at the base hotel)

And extra people spending money at the BX would be bad how? The AAFES depends on spending to run their operations. The more people spend their money there, the better off AAFES is.

I find it wrong funny that the local BX/PX will let the local PD shop, but not Civil Air Patrol.

Nah, how many members are actually close enough to benefit from shopping at AAFES?  I'm not, I'm 1.5hrs from Ft. Campbell.  I'm not going to drive that far just to shop at AAFES.
