Title: Mini-Medal Devices
Post by: Pylon on May 28, 2005, 09:32:24 PM
This is something that's bugged me for a while.  For USAF and other service mini-medals, the services make smaller-sized devices and the multiple devices are placed vertically top to bottom.

For CAP, we have only the full sized devices, and for some unbeknownst reason, the old CAP uniform manual stipulated that the devices should be placed horizontally (meaning of course that they would not fit if you had more than one or two devices).  The new uniform manual makes no references to devices for miniature medals.  Are we, then, to assume that devices are no longer even authorized for mini medals?   Interestingly, CAPM 39-1 (2005) makes a reference in the paragraph (5-6) about mini medals to a "Figure 5-7" which doesn't even exist!

In my opinion, CAP should at least change to allow vertical placement of the devices like our parent services.  There is no good reason to place them horizontally and plenty of reasons (practicality and tradition, among them) to place them vertically.   Opinions?  Ideas?  Comments?

Major bump. (That topic revival warning is cool.)

Was just looking at CAPM 39-1 Figure 2-7. and noticed that in the photo the Lt Col is wearing devices on at least the exposed mini medals arranged vertically.

Take this with a seriously large grain of salt:

Medals are worn on the mess dress and coporate formal uniform for seniors.  Most senior ribbons has a mini-medal version.  They are not worn on service dress or semi-formal uniforms.
