Title: Yaesu FT 817
Post by: Fireball on April 09, 2008, 02:13:14 AM
I was wondering if anyone here used the Yaesu FT 817 HF radio for CAP work? I use mine to regularly check into my Wing's net from my home using an inverted "V" antenna cut to our primary frequency. I'm interested in what sort of setups folks are using and if anyone has used it in the field with portable antennas.

I've used my ICOM 703 (similar power output) as a backpack portable with mixed results. I am definitely down in the mud so to speak, but can usually make it in. I use the yo-yotenna which fits perfectly in the Icom backpack.

What bands do you normally work? Have you had any luck on 75/80 meters?
