Poor photos of the USS Midway in San Diego from a speeding cab:

That port is absolutely huge! I wish I'd been able to take the time to explore.
I saw a CG helo circling low over the marina on the way out today - then it landed at the
Air Station alongside several others.

This guy was outside my hotel the whole time I was there.

Was not aware the USS Midway had been made into a museum... Thanks for providing that bit of news...

It's a fun one too, good for a day cadet activity, and close enough to Balboa Park to go to the San Diego Air & Space Museum on the same outing.

Been a museum for years. SarDragon here on CAPTalk is one of the tour guides. He was a crewmember on the Midway when he was in the Navy.

SarDragon

Well, sorta. I give tours, as a member, but I still do not work for the museum. If you're gonna be in town, contact me, and I'll get you on for free. Then it just costs the parking. The tour takes about 4 1/2 hours if you go everywhere that's open. You'll walk over half a mile in the process.

I know I've made this offer before.

Yes, I did, back in '08. The offer still stands.

Here's me with my buddies in Afghanistan.

Come on. That can't be a real picture. Right?

SarDragon

Why not? you need to read the posts past the pic.

What do you mean why not? I don't work with anyone that grossly overweight in my civilian job let alone anyone even remotely close to that when I was on active duty.

SarDragon

I know guys almost that chubby in CAP. I see others that are this big on a weekly basis around here in SoCal, both men and women. WIWOAD, there were lots of people that big, but that was 25 years ago. It's becoming increasingly more rare these days, but there's still a few around. Also, we don't know the age of this pic. It could be from when things were a little more lax.

Uh, well its in-country, Army and relatively recent (last 10 years or so) because of the ACUs. Its absolutely ridiculous for someone in the military to be that size let alone wearing the uniform and deployed. Accepting of someone like that shows a complete lack of pride and professionalism. As for CAP... I could care less. CAP members are generally only civilians.

My money says he's an activated Guardsman or Reservist and in an MOS they really needed.
The prevailing attitude seems to be if Bubba can pass his PFT with even the minimum passing score, he's good to go.

JK657

There is no requirement to having a passing score to deploy. You'll be flagged for awards, schools, etc. but you aren't listed as non-deployable
