I would like to draw your attention to an awesome program. The Web Cadet Corps. The Web Cadet Corps or WCC is an international online cadet program. You can join the WCC Air Force, Army, Navy, or Marines. The program includes ranks, jobs, forum, medals & awards, and much more. You can also take trades & qualification tests that are very interesting and you can learn a lot from them about many fields & world militaries. You can also participate in features (fun activities), and take courses in leadership, time management, and much much more. It is a very fun program and is free of charge, so I urge you all to check it out.

I looked at it and didn't get it, maybe I'm just a bit slow.

I second the "didn't get it" part, too.

Is this the same Timothy Medeiros, Capt, CAP here on this board?

I'm still not exactly sure what this is because the FAQ and "What is the WCC" pages are restricted to registered users...convenient.

Very well could be, the WCC has many members of CAP in its ranks, several of which are on this very forum.

As for the restricted information page I had the same problem and I have addressed that with the staff.

If you have any questions just post them here or pm me and I will answer them.

What is it?  Of what benefit is it? And does it support or supplant existing "brick and mortar" type organizations?

1. What is the Web Cadet Corps?

The Web Cadet Corps is an online community of people who have come together to form a Cadet Corps - online! Just like any Air Force/Army/Marine/Navy Corps/Squadron/Unit based in real life, we do the same things, but online! Training, Promotions, Medals, Apppointments, and a Chain of Command are a few of the things that we share very similiarly with any other military service!

Originally founded in 1999, the WCC was originally one unit - the Navy. Since then, it has expanded greatly into 4 units - Air Force, Army, Marines, and the Navy. Each of them has their own unit's special training, promotions, and incentives that makes them special!

2. Do I have to be in the military to join?

Absolutely not! We are more than welcoming to anyone at all! Whether you've been in the military for 20 years, have had past cadet experience, or you're just interested in learning about the military, we're here for you!

3. Is there an age limit to join?

To join by your own choice, you must be 13 years-old or older. If you're under 13, you must have your parent's permission.

4. Is this the Army?

Of course not! We are not the military in any form. As we are not related to any country's military or service program, we're not here to recruit you to the military or send you off to war. What we do is like the military, however you face no sort of danger of going to war or combat.

5. Does this cost money?

Nope! The WCC is totally non-profit, and actually has people who donate their own hard-earned money to pay for the website hosting.

6. What is the point of the WCC?

Our mission is as follows:

To promote learning and understanding of the world's military forces as well as useful general and specialist knowledge.
To promote self-discipline, loyalty, leadership, comradeship and a sense of pride in achievement.
To meet and make new friends from all around the world with common interests.

6. Does everybody have to learn HTML or have a job in their unit?

No. Although it would be extremely useful their are plenty of jobs that do not require the knowledge of HTML, In fact almost all of the departments have "Updaters" who's job it is to do it for you.

7. Can I transfer/change units, or do I have to stay with one unit?

Yes. You can transfer units any time every six months, provided you can complete and pass the equivalent rank test in your new unit or the Commandant doesn't have any other restrictions present.

8. What is the highest position within the Web Cadet Corps?

The highest position in the Web Cadet Corps is the Commandant. This person is elected by the members of the corps for a term of one year. Every year another election takes place to determine who will be the leader of the WCC for the following year.

9. How can I get medals?

Medals are awarded for a variety of different achievements and accomplishments. They show one's hard work and dedication to the corps in the area that the medal was awarded for. To see all possible medals you can earn, and how to get them, please click here.

10. How am I promoted?

Promotions are done at the unit level by your Commanding Officer. Once you have completed all of the necessary requirements to be promoted one rank up! You can view the Promotion Chart to find out what you'll need to be promoted!

11. Can I be charged/get in trouble for bad behavior?

Yes. Should you commit any sort of offence (swearing, hacking, inappropriate conduct, etc.) then you can be charged in the WCC Court. Consequences can vary from demotions to having to publicly apologize, even to a dismissal from the corps all together. To view the Code of Offences, click here.

12. What jobs are there that I can do?

There are several jobs around the corps that you can do! We can break the WCC down into departments (Training, Administration, etc.) as well as units. Everyone from those who code pages in HTML and/or PHP (Updaters), to those who run the departments (known as 'Department Heads') are staff for that particular department. In the unit, staff are more involved in getting cadets active and involved rather than running the department. You can have several jobs in your unit, such as Recruiting NCO (get cadets to join the corps, and your unit!), Updates NCO (make sure your unit pages are updated and looking sharp!), and Platoon/Division/Flight Commander (a more senior position where you take charge of Junior Cadets).

You can see what jobs are available in departments by looking in the Job Postings Forum, and many unit jobs are advertised in your private unit forums.

13. How do I become an officer? Can I become an officer right away?

Currently, all officers have gone through training in the Officer's Academy and passed extensive training focusing in various aspects of the WCC. They served as NCO's until they were at least the rank of Sgt/PO1, before being accepted into the Officer's Academy (OA) upon the recommendation of their Commanding Officer.

There is a Direct Officer Entry Program (DOEP) in the works as we speak! This will allow new recruits to come into the corps and immediately assume the rank of an officer.

14. What do I do here?

This is one of the most commonly asked questions, and a good one at that! You have three main aspects of the corps:

Training
Jobs & Duties
Unit Activities

Training: This includes doing Trades, Qualifications, and other required training to be promoted! Not only do Trades and Qualifications get you promoted, but the more you to, the better your unit does! When you get up in the ranks, you'll need to take NCO College courses to be promoted. These courses offer training in Administration, Leadership, and HTML webpage programming. To view the courses you can take, check out the College here.

Jobs & Duties: As outlined in Question 12, there are several jobs and duties that you can do for the corps. While jobs are not required, they are a great way for you to get your foot in the door when it comes to starting out and moving up in the ranks. The Commandant was a Cadet at one time too! You need to ensure that your jobs and duties have been fulfilled. If you have to report to your CO by the end of the month, make sure it's done. If you have a deadline to meet to have completed coding a page, make sure it's done! If something ever comes up, remember that we all have problems, and we all know this. Let someone know and they will be more than understanding in giving you an extension.

Unit Activities: All units will have features and incentives posted on their unit page, as well as in the unit forum. These are intended for you to have some fun while still remaining active within the unit! They will include various things from making a caption for a specific picture to getting to know other cadets within the unit. It is your responsibility to make sure that you're participating in these things – they're a lot of fun, and even more fun when you're doing them together as a team!

15. What if I want to leave the corps (temporarily or permanently)?

We understand that there are things that come up in everyone's life that we cannot control. Whether you're moving, or just not interested in the WCC anymore, it's something that happens to everyone at some point. You have two options when issues come up:

Short Leave
Extended Leave
Permanent Leave

Short Leave: This is intended for short periods of time. For example, you'll be away for the weekend because you're visiting a friend.

Extended Leave: This is intended for longer periods of time than Short Leave. For example, you'll be attending Cadet Training for 6 weeks.

Permanent Leave: This is when you're no longer able to commit any time to the corps. For example, you'll be moving to a rural area which does not have the internet.

Whatever your choice, make sure you let someone know! They will be more than happy to work with you to reduce your leave time, and appreciate your notification.

Not really sure what you mean...can you explain?

CASH172

I read that whole FAQ and still don't get what you guys do.  Like I can see you need guys to manage the site and all, but what's the actual gist of the program.  What are these activities and how are they fun.

thp

We are a group of people from around the world who are or were in Cadet type programs or in the military who enjoy the camraderie of like minded people, most members also enjoy the ability to learn new things through trades, qualifications, and online courses.

What I'm trying to find out is what do you do.  Like do you talk on a voice system about just stuff, do you get together somewhere, do you play online games.  Like what?

And the point of this is?

To make new friends, get a taste of military life without ever leaving your computer, learn new and interesting things.

We have online tests, courses and a forum. We take test then apointed members grade them. We have officers who govern cadets and all levels of the chain of command. Just like CAP. The WCC is just there for you to advance your personal knowledge in the military, and experience a little about what its like without leaving your comp, without pt, we dont do anything for any community or anything like that, its just all online, almost like a game, just you learn and work at bettering yourself...

Any more questions? Feel free to join and look around (If you join you must also sign up in forums and validate to have access.) Three more CAP members have joined tonight, and there are plenty already members! There is no commitment, but please check it out!

I ask that you please list my name as your referrer on the application (Navy - PO3 Poe, Troy).
