FlyGuy: I should have mentioned that even tho I was at Bragg, I'm a "leg for life." I was over on the non-82nd side of the house. No jumping for me.

I believe that there is another category for consideration. That category refers to those of us that were "military brats".
I was the son of an USAF Pilot before becoming one of the first cadets in a new on-base CAP composite squadron at Travis AFB in 1958. I was able to complete the cadet program and earn my Certificate of Proficiency and a promotion to C/2nd Lt. in a year at the Travis Squadron, and a year in the squadron at McClellan AFB, before Dad's next transfer took out of the US.
I took a break from college, enlisted and served four years in the USAF (Intelligence Analyst at the PACOM Elint Center and the underground HQ of the Strategic Air Command). I completed my bachelors degree in evening on-base courses. I left the USAF (after 4 years as a SSGT and was awarded the JSCM as a young airman 1st Class) for grad school and served on the Nebraska CAP Wing staff. I'm now retired from the Boeing Company and a member of the Cascade Warbirds.
In reflection, I really appreciate my time in CAP and how it prepared me for future roles in aviation!

Tried to join CAP as a cadet 10 years ago while I was in High School, no one ever answered the phone or returned emails.

After I graduated (2006) I tried to join the Army as a Medic. The recruiter screwed with me for 6 months so I said forget this and moved on.

April 2007- Hired fulltime at Lincoln Fire Dept, as an Engineer.
August 2009- Finally got ahold of my local squadron, and attended my first meeting.

Was a cadet cap'er and very short time senior member in the mid/late 1960's until joining the AF
Was an active duty AF'er for 20+ years airman, nco, and officer
Walked by CAP recruiting booth for  15+ years after the AF career, but just couldn't get motivated to join.
Only joined again about 3 years ago, since I was looking for another worthwhile "hobby"
I love wearing my golf shirt and grey pants to meetings
Most of the non veteran CAP members I've met are very sincere and dedicated and I'm not sure one has to be a veteran to be a good member in CAP.
