Greetings all,

I recently created a new product called the AZWG Drone Wiki; please bookmark the link.

I've also made a short orientation video:

The AZWG Drone Wiki serves as a clearinghouse of CAP Drone Knowledge and Self-Study Aircrew Training. It is under heavy development, so check back often for new content.

Another great resource comes to us from MIWG: https://sites.google.com/miwg.cap.gov/uas/

Eclipse

Sorry to be a wet blanket again, but members should not be spinning up home-grown resources.

We now have two websites competing with NHQ to be the source for UAS info

There's a disclaimer to "always check the source".  OK.  Why not just send people to the source
from the get go?

At a minimum, there should not be ANY local copies of docs posted at NHQ.

Eclipse is right in the strictest sense; limit homegrown content because the quality and accuracy is unverified. That's reasonable; however, in practice we're seeing plenty of "Unofficial" content Wings are creating out of pure necessity.

Mid-Atlantic Region DOU Gordon Robertson (DEWG) has praised the Wiki and is sending his new onboards there. He was a previous customer of my successful SWR CAPF 5U Google Classroom; the AZWG Drone Wiki is the direct successor to that.

The Wiki is not in competition; The main NHQ sUAS Program is the scaffolding that the AZWG Drone Wiki is built on and we appreciate that NHQ has put those foundations in place.

In 2022, many discrepancies exist in NHQ's sUAS source documentation; the wiki addresses them whenever possible or appropriate. For instance: The orientation video discusses missing programmatic updates, 70-1U Interagency is severely degraded since NWCG PMS 515 was published in 2019, CAPR 66-1U remains unpublished and is being changed from a regulation to a standard, I had to personally synthesize guidance on setting up and conducting sUAS for AE activities; the list continues.

I certainly appreciate the feedback though and I adjusted the Wiki to include a redirect to CAP's Main sUAS Documentation Hub at the top. Thanks!

Definitely tipping my CAP to MIWG for their content. Please note that their website's Quick Links Page still lists my UASMP/5U Classrooms; those are at end-of-life and have been replaced by the AZWG Drone Wiki. I do have an active request in to change that.

You'll also want to check out their Michigan Wing sUAS MP and Technicians Youtube Channel. They have a collection of sUAS aircrew training videos and have been uploading new content as of today (3/27/2022).

Certainly a fair bit of information flows around CAP's sUAS program. I always appreciate folks setting guideposts out to help chart the course, folks like MIWG.

Those links still had decent information, it's just better information exists now. Redirects inside the Classrooms send inbound/existing students where they need to go anyway.

Speaking of information flow, a good place to put a finger on the pulse is through the Civil Air Patrol sUAS Mission Pilots & Technicians Facebook Group. Started by Michael Panco (DEWG); requires a CAPID to be admitted. You see Austin/Pedro responding to posts and comments from time to time.

Looks like a great resource, I'm involved in the MIWG program right now but will definitely use this as a resource. Are you involved at all in the program at NESA this year? I signed up on day 1 and am still pending slotting, wondering when they'll have this worked out?

Good to meet you Captain Thompson. I haven't signed up this year, but certainly look forward to anything you can bring back and share. I saw that these Emergency Checklists were handed out at NESA last year. They are much more robust than what's written in O-5009.

Kind of like how the ES Tech rating used to require us to maintain a local library of all training material available from NHQ? Should I have not put those task guides on the shelf if they are available to download on the website?

I don't see this as competition, MIWG set up their Google Classroom to be just that, a classroom. It's used in conjunction with a series of YouTube videos which demonstrate some of the tasks, a series of live Zoom meetings that cover the tasks, and online tests for tasks that only require knowledge and not demonstration. Most of this is not offered by NHQ, and using these resources, they are able to get a lot of the basic knowledge tasks signed off remotely so that when we get together in person we only have to focus on the tasks that require demonstration.

I wish NHQ offered something as robust as what MIWG has in place, and what Lt Seidell is putting in place for AZWG, and maybe they will look at what the Wings are doing and step up their game a bit.

No, you should not have.

Directing your members to the NHQ site fulfills that requirement.

In this thread alone there are three different "sources" for drone info,
and at least one which is linking to outdated info on another.

This is literally the thing that NHQ says it is working towards with all
the dead websites out there.

AZWG Drone Wiki Update
The AZWG CAPF 5U Evaluation Criteria is now tied together with our Expectations and Plan of Action Documents for Virtual 5U Oral Evaluation and 5U Field Qualification. This helps standardize our approach to CAPF 5U Evaluation. Briefed in: X. Instructor & Check Pilots; F. How to Conduct a CAPF 5U.

Quick Tips
1. We are using Google Workspace Appointment Scheduler to automate booking of Virtual Oral Evaluations from Calendar events. We highly recommend you investigate this feature if your Wing uses Google for Nonprofit.

2. We are using Eventbrite to standardize the booking of sUAS Field Events. Eventbrite is versatile software that remains free if your event is also free. Wings have used Eventbrite in the past to handle ticketing for their Wing Conferences, so it can most-certainly help automate ticketing at your recurring sUAS Training Events.

The MIWG DOU, Col Boehmer, gave you a huge shout out at the conference this past Saturday, and said after this round of training MIWG will start phasing folks over to your site instead. Great job!

Hey all,

Just wanted to plug the Livestream section of the Wiki. It includes a full academic breakdown of streaming for those interested. Otherwise, it shares what we're doing to test this capability.

We want to integrate with DAART eventually. The DAART team is in the process of scheduling our Panasonic Tough books for software upgrade.

And finally, I've linked the Livestream Chain required to get Live video to the internet from a Skydio 2.

Had the pleasure of welcoming Col Boehmer to AZWG this weekend for our Wing Conference. He visited as a BOG member and spoke during the keynote section of Saturday's morning session. Later, we were able to chat at length about sUAS and I'm glad to finally meet him in person, having only met over Zoom previously. Tip o' the CAP to MIWG.

Are pictures not allowed here? Maybe that's a forum rule I missed. The Skydio 2 livestream chain picture lasted a few days but got scrapped as of this afternoon. Video embeds appear to be allowed though...

Anyway, the direct link to the livestream chain is (here)

All,

Hope you've been well. Just wanted to pop back in and mention that I've started working on the UASMP portion of the Drone Wiki. There's some interesting new content available now. I check this forum a few times a week. If you have collaborative feedback, I'm all ears.

Thx!

Any update on the requirements for the Cadet SUAS Badge? Not cadets getting a Technician or Pilot qualification, but the Cadets only Badge?

Lt Seidell

Quote from: wacapgh on May 24, 2022, 08:58:41 pmAny update on the requirements for the Cadet SUAS Badge? Not cadets getting a Technician or Pilot qualification, but the Cadets only Badge?

Last I read about that was from the Nov 2021 sUAS Programmatic Update. It said the ICL for hard badge requirements was still in draft. I think it remains in draft at this point. That said, R39-1 does currently allow the wearing of sUAS badges.

Vanguard currently offers the Pre-Solo sUAS Badge, which is in the exact same configuration as the Cadet sUAS Badge from R39-1. After seeing this, and speaking with colleagues in NYWG, the way I understand it is this: The Pre-Solo Badge is for cadets who have underwent an orientation clinic, or have otherwise received primary flight training, and have demonstrated clear competency with the aircraft and basic safety elements, but they have not yet completed a Form 5U Evaluation.

According to the Nov. 2021 Programmatic Update, once you pass a Form 5U Evaluation with Recreational Pilot Endorsement, seniors and cadets become eligible for the Basic sUAS Pilot Badge.

My commander informed me that award of the badge also requires a formal CAPF 2A be submitted to them.

All,

Just wanted to update you that NHQ Volunteer sUAS Program Manager Joel Shreenan (GAWG) approved the formal name change from "AZWG Drone Wiki" to "Civil Air Patrol Drone Wiki". It is anticipated that the wiki will be linked to from the National Website.

I had to switch link domains, so the new link for the wiki is: https://capdronewiki.notion.site/Civil-Air-Patrol-Drone-Wiki-2b606dfb3c074ea9bde17e2a83f0d026

Ugghh. Ask it this way:

"I'm really interested as a Cadet in the sUAS Program, and want to know what opportunities there are? How can I get involved?"

(Then, after you've done everything, there may, or may not, be a badge or certificate for you. But that should always be an after thought.  Don't do things just for bling. Let it be a nice surprise at a meeting one day if you get presented with a badge.)

JMHO ... others may differ ... obviously.

Reading far too much into a simple question. Not every request to understand requirements for a piece of CAP bling is part of a quest to pencil-whip or otherwise do the minimum necessary to tick the boxes.

I haven't been a Cadet for 40 years...

As an Adult Leader I am trying find an NHQ published definition of what is required for a cadet to earn the Cadet sUAS Badge that was announced in ICL 21-01 to R 39-1, 9 AUGUST 2021

I was recently able to secure a draft copy of the award requirements you are asking about. Take a look: CAPR 35-6 with sUAS Additions v2.doc

There is also a robust thread discussing these ratings over on the CAP sUAS Facebook Page.
