GRANITE

Good afternoon everyone!

I'm a chief that will be promoted to Lt in January and I'd really appreciate some help with all the new uniform items that I need to purchase. I have a general idea but I want to be 100% certain what all the items are so I only have to make one vanguard order because.....well.....you know how vanguard is.

Chief,

I'm going to be as nice as I can be about this, because if you're asking here then I have to assume that you are not getting the leadership and guidance you need in your unit.

You're a Cadet Chief Master Sergeant. About to be a Cadet Second Lieutenant. You should know where to find these answers by now. If you were one of my senior Cadet NCOs I would hand you a copy of CAPR 39-1 and tell you to find the answers to your question. I would also tell you to consult your Cadet Officers (if you have any) and I would tell those Cadet Officers to check your work and report back to me with the results, which I would then verify myself.

I would then ask them why they failed you by not teaching you the tools to set you up for success and I would reflect on how I failed them by not providing them the proper oversight. Because at the end of the day, the cadets are my responsibility.

My suggestion to you is this: first, get a copy of 39-1 and look it up. Make a list of what you think you'll need. If you have further questions, ask your Cadet Officers. If you have none, ask your CP Officers. That's why they exist. If you still run into questions they can't answer, then come back here and ask me or another forum member.

Good luck, Chief, and congrats on getting this far in the program!

I'm curious, what uniform items do you think you need to buy. Aside from rank insignia, CAP cutouts, and shoulder boards/epaulette slides, there really aren't any new required uniform items that come to my mind.

If you really want to, you can of course get the wheel cap and associated hat device for your service dress uniform, but that's entirely optional and the flight cap works just as well.
If you are confident in you abilities and experience, whether someone else is impressed is irrelevant. - Eclipse

I have one I made from a 50 cal bottle breacher and a 1/2in dowel with a bullet tip. Then CAP/CV Gen Phelka approved at NER conference a few years back.

FTFY  If you're going to recommend something at least use it's proper name so they can find it at Vanguard.

If you don't have a service coat, skip the shoulder boards and 1 set of C/2d Lt insignia.
Add:
Sew on C/2d Lt insignia (2 sets), velcro grade insignia for ABU fleece, grade sleeve for ABU parka - if you have them.

Not a valid attachment ID.

Here's mine.  50 Cal casing on the back, dud 7.62 mm on the front, polished pine wood shaft.

A proper accessory for a Gentleman's kit.  ;)

Nice nice ... I have one of those, but it also has a silver oak leaf on it.

If you're getting a service coat, stick with the enlisted version without epaulets.

Cheaper, more easily available, and looks better with the velcro sewn directly to the shoulders instead of flopping around on the eapaulets of the officers coat.
