So my unit is hosting an award ceremony in a few months and I am working on updating some things. With regards to our guidon, as a squadron are we eligible to have streamers on our guidon to represent a unit citation award earned by our home wing? In addition, can we display a streamer for the AFOEA?

TheSkyHornet

The streamers would be for Squadron of Distinction, Squadron of Merit, and Quality Cadet Unit Award.

A Unit Citation Award goes to the individuals within the unit, not the unit itself. It's a ribbon. AFOEA is also only a ribbon.

CAPR 900-2 has the answer that you're looking for, but in short, Unit Citation streamers and the AFOEA streamer go on the flag of the unit/element that was awarded it. So the Unit Citations that were awarded to the entire wing would go on the wing's flag, not the squadron flag. Likewise, the AFOEA was awarded to all of CAP and is on the NHQ flag.

Now if your squadron specifically has been awarded a Unit Citiation, Cadet Quality Unit Award, Squadron of Distinction, or Squadron of Merit, then those streamers may be attached to the squadron flag. If your squadron does not have a flag, then the squadron guidon may be used.
If you are confident in you abilities and experience, whether someone else is impressed is irrelevant. - Eclipse

Thank you. I wasn't sure if it was just highest HQ that displayed it or if they trickled down to subordinate units as well - R900-2 didn't specify that.

A unit citation goes to all the members of record of a unit during the time cited.

A red streamer with white lettering is issued by NHQ along with the citation for attachment to the
unit's flag.

I stand corrected. I was looking in 39-3.

Add one to regulation interfacing.

Slightly off subject, but why is the Unit Citation Ribbon green and the streamer red?

Based on my research while building the McChord Rack Builder, it seems that the red unit citation streamer existed before the unit citation ribbon was created.  The ribbon was established in 1960 and, at that time, all CAP awards had to be approved by the Army's Institute of Heraldry.  Because there was already an all-red ribbon in use (the Army Meritorious Unit Commendation), the Institute of Heraldry offered CAP use an all-green ribbon instead.

Note, while the IACE ribbon worn today all-red, it originally wasn't but instead was red superimposed with three white offset propellers.  Times have since changed and CAP ribbon designs are no longer strictly governed by our former Army overlords.
