Title: Saves
Post by: Ohioguard on July 02, 2022, 10:21:21 PM
The beginning on June, national was scrolling 40 saves across the top of their web page.  Now it is 129.  Haven't seen any news release on over 80 save in a month.  Did I miss something?

Hmmm. May be some bad wording there(?)  I'd believe 129 saves might be more accurate than "129 lives saved".  IOW, that 129 may be including all the non-distress saves, like the always popular ELT in the hangar mission we do so many of.

Someone that has the actual numbers can correct me.

88 saves awarded for the Yellowstone flooding in Montana.

Those are non-distress FINDs, not saves.

And Non-Distress Finds are not to be confused with actual Saves. Saves are awarded by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center not CAP.

That ticker has always been the marketed Saves, someone probably broke it updating the graphics.

OK ... yes ...I'm an idiot for confusing Saves with Finds.  LOL

How did we help the National Guard? The media never gives us credit:

The media doesn't award save credit, AFRCC does. The media is lucky they can tell you what day it is.

For those that might not know, the AFRCC awards finds/saves based upon the result of the mission, not what each participating agency did. So if CAP is just one of several agencies they asked to help (remember, the AFRCC doesn't task, they can only ask) and even if CAP ultimately had nothing to do with the find or save, every agency involved gets "credit" from the AFRCC.

"You get a Ribbon, you get a ribbon! Everybody gets a ribbon!"

A funny Oprah meme for this, but I know thats not allowed. Use your imagination. LOL

That has not been my experience. CAP had to make the actual find to earn find credit. Just because you were part of the mission doesn't mean you get credit. But what do I know? Just been hunting the wiley ELT for 30 plus years.

According to National Headquarters we flew 21 sorties and were awarded 88 saves for locating people after the flooding.
Saves were awarded by the AFRCC.
