Susan Annida Crim Sturgeon died October 18, 2018, in Odessa, Texas. She was born September 3, 1919 in Bagdad, Kentucky, to Alvin T. and Hetty Poole Crim. The family moved to Evanston, Illinois, in 1930 and she graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1936. She met her husband, Purser Kent Sturgeon, at First Baptist Church in Evanston, and they were married there on April 15, 1938. While he was in the Army Air Corps during World War II she worked at the aircraft plant in Ft. Worth, Texas, helping to build B-24 Liberators; she was a "Rosie the Riveter". After the war, they lived in Evanston and raised their family. After her husband's death she moved to Texas in 1979 and resided in Gardendale until shortly before her death.

She was a Girl Scout leader for 20 years, was a 45-year member of Civil Air Patrol, was a member of the CAF, was a 70-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, was a member of the Lt. Brewer DAR chapter in Midland, and was a member of the Permian Basin Genealogy Society. She volunteered at the American Airpower Heritage Museum in the Oral History department, and served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Gardendale Water Supply Corporation for 10 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Midland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1975, her daughter Nancy Beth Dynneson of Odessa, TX in 1977, her brother Douglas Poole Crim in 1998, her son Kent Douglas Sturgeon of Gardendale, TX in 2015 and her great-grandson Nate Hawbaker in 2016. She is survived by five daughters: Paula Sue Walton (Joseph, d.) of Gardendale, TX, Kathy Anne (Kathryn) Valencia (Billy, d.) of Ignacio, CO, Becky Jo Moore (Hugh) of Loudon, TN, Barbara Jean Hoban (Joseph) of Midwest City, OK, and Lorelei Cauffman (John) of Osceola, IA; her daughter-in-law Barbara Sturgeon of Gardendale, TX; 16 grandchildren including PK Sturgeon II (Michelle) of San Antonio, TX and Ben Sturgeon of Odessa, TX; 36 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, and many more members of her extended family.
