WOW!  Where the heck did you find those?  I believe they are indeed rejected designs for the first AF sleeve insignia for enlisted/NCO personnel.

Great find!

OK...spill it, what's the story?

Just a bit of Air Force history:  http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?storyID=123010810

Thanks...as an historian I am greatly interested in these.

By the way, these are on e-bay listed as CAP chevrons...

There was also a set of sergeant stripes that look like USMC but were listed as WWII CAP. Looked like Marine stripes to me.

I hope y'all aren't using eBay as an authoritative source on uniform insignia...

Nope, it's just fun to look around. If that command post tent wasn't so much to ship from PA however...

CAP in World War II wore bright red epaulets on the officer uniform, and the NCO's wore bright red chevrons.  Yes, they did look like Marine chevrons.

There are OTHER sources?!  heheheh

I've seen them at militaria shows before - stuck in my memory because they were so odd. As have others, I've seen them on eBay more than once. I don't know much about them (outside the info in the link Steve provided) but I don't think they are as rare as what that article says - and they defibately are not CAP specific.

Rather than UL the pics, here's a link to some enlisted insignia I've collected for anyone interested in that kinda thing...
