Title: UAV Chase Plane
Post by: C-150 on September 18, 2010, 01:10:35 PM
According to the USAF Reserve Command website the March ARB Aero Club will be using a T-41C as a chase plane for UAV aircraft flying in the So. Cal. area. According to the article the FAA requires a chase plane for UAVs flying over the U.S. Why was this mission not given to or at least shared by CAP?

Availablity issues for aircraft and crews was the big reason.

But they did like us enough to give CAP the Surrogate Predator Program?

Chalk 2 Aviation out of Apple Valley, CA has been doing the UAV chase flying for General Atomics' UAV airstrip in El Mirage, using C-210s, for a number of years.

Chalk 2 is contracting directly with General Atomics.
El Mirage is where General Atomics does all of their first flights and R & D flying.
It's right next to the R-2508 Complex.
