Title: Skype?
Post by: shorning on May 20, 2006, 03:32:12 AM
Just wondering if anyone has tried Skype (http://www.skype.com).  If so, what has been your experience with it?

I got it....I have only used it a couple of times.  Works nice and haven't had any problems yet.

We usede it heavily for encampment planning - worked great once we got everyone up and running.

They are also doing SKYPE-OUT through the end of the year at no charge.

I've used that as well and most people can't tell you're not on a "real" phone.

That's what prompted me to ask.  I've had it on my computer for a while, but no one I know uses it.  It's basically there in case I deploy or go TDY.  Then I can call back home.  Skype-Out actually makes it more useful.

I used it to conduct conference call interviews for encampment cadet command staff applicants.  Worked great for me.

I bought $10 worth of minutes, which actually lasted quite a while (I still have ~$2.50 left).  It's free through the end of the year, so we'll probably use it more.

I have digital phone, so I already get free long distance.  Skype allowed me to conference call, which was quite useful.
