Since I apparently started all this, I'd like to call for a check-in of all Admirals of the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska here.  I'm calling the muster.

Several years ago, I was made an admiral in the TX Navy by Anne Richards.

But I don't wanna go to war over it, or anything.. I'm all about peaceful coexistence.   ;D

No.  It could be argued that even one was too many.

The Fleet Admiral admits reluctantly that he first mentioned the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska here.

He sincerely apologizes to the rest of the forum.

Just to throw a note of seriousness here, back in the late 1800s and up until WWII about half the states had a naval militia, including quite a few inland states.  They were the equivalent of the National Guard and actually were the only reserve system the Navy had for a long time.  After the Naval Reserve was formed the naval militias seriously declined and now only a few states have them (New York, Ohio, Alaska, and Texas).  These are the equivalent of State Defense Forces and many states still have statutes authorizing them still on the books.

I strongly suspect that Nebraska's Admiral program is the remnants of their naval militia system.  While they may have turned it into a joke, it still is a serious matter in some parts.  Just wanted to bring it to your attention.

Thou art summarily demoted to the rank of Ordinary Seaman. Bosuns don't have whistles, they have pipes, and the resulting sounds are calls.
