Public Affairs Officers,

Civil Air Patrol National Commander Maj. Gen. Mark Smith has approved an extension, effective immediately, to support you during the coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency. The memo grants a May 15 deadline extension for submitting Crisis Communications and Public Affairs plans as part of CAPR 190-1.

What they did not do was recognize the confusion that would result from this poorly worded exercise in good intentions. It looks like every unit PAO got this. The problem(s)?

1 - Crisis communication plans are not required below Wing.
2 - PA Plans are to be submitted through channels, not direct to NHQ.

Maybe they should take a course on internal communications?

Both Wings and Regions have to submit CCPs by the end of the first quarter, in consultation
with
their subordinate commanders. That's what the extension is intended to relieve.

Same goes for downstream plans.

Totally correct. Since a lot of PAOs at the Squadron level are unaware, they are in a minor panic over the wording, especially the crisis comms plan.

Eclipse

If they are in a "minor panic" about this they shouldn't be PAOs.

Well how often do you find people who WANT to be PAO?

Eclipse

Far too often, qualified or otherwise.

A lot of people, especially new members, thinks it's FaceSpace.

That is a small part of it. You are blessed, we struggle to find those who want the job.
