Simple question(I hope)
So why is it that we can't wear the blue beret with our ABUs?

As the story goes, some AF general saw a cadet in ABUs with his beret from afar off and said "Oh, I didn't know that Security Forces were at this event" (whatever event that was) So CAP then scrambled to make the ABU/Blue Beret illegal.

My question is, WHY in the Sam Hill would the Hawk Mountain Ranger School cover be illegal with ABUs

Sure this is what you want to open with? By that logic, CAP would scramble to make ABUs illegal, because generals see them too. Lots of institutional knowledge on this site. Use that search/advanced search feature for the history of the ABU/beret discussions.

The thing that gets me with the beret is the fact that it's not a standard garrison cover, unlike the Army or a Security Forces unit. There's no "entire CAP unit" wearing only berets at the same time. So if you're the odd one out wearing a beret, you look funky. If the UOD is to be in patrol caps, everyone should be in patrol caps, regardless of the camouflage pattern on the uniform. The same goes for wearing a service cap when everyone else in the room has a flight cap.

Thats likely a rather apocryphal retelling.

Because the updated ABU Wear Instructions letter dated 24 Oct 2016 says you can't. That's why.
This letter is to be incorporated into the next CAPM 39-1 change.

Ten seems like a nice round number. Let's shut this off at 10 replies. It's going down the same rabbit hole most of the rest of similar discussion have gone.
