Title: 87 aircraft have tires slashed at Merill Field, AK

Alaska Daily News (and CNN who copied their story nearly verbatim) report that 87 GA aircraft had their tires slashed night before last at Merrill Field, AK.  The image in the ADN story shows all three tires on each aircraft were slashed.  Someone spent a lot of time and energy vandalizing these aircraft.  At least these aircraft are obviously unairworthy.  What if something a bit more subtle was done?  Bummer.

As someone who has worked in a newsroom, most national stories come in off the UPI or Reuters service. A lot of times, editors pull these stories off the wire and shove it in a hole in their rundown. If it's too long, they edit as they see fit. Plagiarism isn't an issue. In print, its a little different. The editors have a little more time to work a story, edit for tone and grammar and such. TV news has a very short time frame to get a story out. We would get breaking news shortly before the 5 o'clock show, and by 10 it was much better in terms of packaging and such.

Shame about this incident. Sounds like someone had too much time on their hands and probably too much liquor.

The big tundra tires can be well into the thousands of dollars.
