Ok pilots and history buffs, I need a plane ID:

I was sent a few photos by a former CAP member from the early 50's, from a Squadron that met at Wayne Major Airport, now Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). Before I caption them and upload them, I need to know what plane this is.
Incidentally, she says this plane had to make an emergency landing at Ecorse High School's football field. Local authorities told them to disassemble the plane and trailer it back to the airport, but instead one of their pilots, who was a WWII pilot with bush experience, did a short field takeoff from the football field and flew it back.
That is an Aeronca L-16. As a CAP Cadet in the early 1960's our squadron had one. A really fun airplane to fly. Thinking if I can find a good one an L-16 will be my next airplane.

I always thought that poster made it look like the USAF guy was flicking a toy plane into the air. Anybody else?
Not to me, since you do not flick toy or paper planes sideways. Always to the front. If you flick such sideways it almost always crashes.
