Out of curiosity, I'd like to know what other squadrons are made up of. As of now, my squadron has:

About 15-17 senior members

20-25 cadets consisting of:
About 5 cadets somewhere in the rank of Airman
10-15 or so sergeants
And the rest are officers.

Here at Vanguard, we're fairly top heavy.

So out of 25 cadets, only about 5 are cadet officers?  I wouldn't call that top heavy.  But I would say that is about what my Sq was when I was the CC.  Its all a up and down.  Cadets seem to join in batches.  One cadet joins, several get recruited along with that cadet and they progress through roughly the same pace.

It seems like a lot of work to keep track of everyone's rank. Isn't it enough just to know their grade?

Extra sharp won't be as rank as others.

We have no general officers on our books.  Six or seven field grades, a dozen company grade officers, and a bunch of cadets, that's all.

(Plus, some of us are very rank indeed after a weekend in the woods).  :o

PS, Come to think of it, we do have one former GA045 cadet who is now a general officer - http://www.af.mil/AboutUs/Biographies/Display/tabid/225/Article/108506/lieutenant-general-lee-k-levy-ii.aspx

I wonder (possibly a different thread): what is the most successful former cadet, and the most infamous former cadet, we know of? The criteria might not be by grade, or by worldly achievement (i.e. astronaut, General, Admiral, or President, but by a more holistic view of success).

I might be starting a new thread here, hmmm.

I've met her, she's currently a head of the Joining Forces initiative at the White House, working directly for FLOTUS.

I thought there was no Cadet/Airman Basic, or C/AB!

The grade is Cadet Airman!

See http://www.capmembers.com/cadet_programs/stripes_to_diamonds/

By using the word Basic it causes a confusion among members. It is the equivalent of using non-authorized items in our uniforms.

On Monday I saw a report created by a PAO who should have known better using the reference to Cadet Airman Basic in a report to a higher headquarters...

If you want to refer to Cadet Airman Basic, petition to NHQ that this grade/rank be modified!

Sorry for the rant.

Sometimes I see members referring to C/AB or Cadet Airman Basic.

Even NHQ is not consistent in its use. Some publications state "Cadet Airman Basic." Others state "Cadet Airman."

See, for example, the online Member Report. It abbreviates all grades as, for example, "C/A1C [name]."

Those cadets without Curry are posted as "Cadet." It does not state "C/AB" but "Cadet."

Knowledge Base does state "C/AB" but the Cadet Super Chart does not say anything about the cadet with no Curry is to be referred as "C/AB."

See http://www.capmembers.com/cadet_programs/stripes_to_diamonds/

It depends on the context of the use.  Cadet Airman Basic (C/AB) is the grade all cadets start at before earning C/Amn.  They wear no insignia as specified in CAPM 39-1.  In this they use Cadet Airman Basic to specifically refer to C/AB with the exclusion of other cadets.  However, in other regulations, they refer to cadet airman as a way to include C/AB to C/SrA.  Or they may use it to refer to C/AB to C/CMSgt.

So, Cadet Airman Basic (C/AB) is an appropriate term for all new cadets before completing their Curry Achievement.

The abbreviation C/AB may be found in CAPP 151.

That's what I was getting at.

CAPP 151 clearly shows the "grade".

C/ABs are Airmen and Cadets. All three are appropriate.

I'm willing to bet it's right next door to -018...and according to the Ohio Wing listing of units, that's right down the block from Oz.

We're actually 018, but when I signed up here we hadn't received our own unit number yet...  We were attached to 038 for awhile.  I've updated my profile now.

We've added a couple more SMs and have a guy restarting after time off from CAP, not sure what his rank will end up being yet.  Slow going right now.  We're all trying to get Form 5s, Mission Scanner, and Mission Pilot done, but our airplane got temporarily re-assigned a couple hours away (to keep a mission ready unit up and running while their airplane is repaired).  So, we're kind of stuck at the moment.  Hope to have our airplane back by end of Summer though.  Then we can get back to work.  :-)
