Title: Safety Guidelines for Hot Environments
Post by: N Harmon on July 15, 2010, 08:30:21 PM
Safety Guidelines for Hot Environments can be found in the Cadet Physicial Fitness Program pamphlet (CAPP 52-18 (http://www.capmembers.com/media/cms/P052_018_501C183A14D19.pdf)) on page 31. It appears to be taken from the Army Field Manual on Field Hygiene and Sanitation (FM 21-10 (https://rdl.train.army.mil/soldierPortal/atia/adlsc/view/public/6656-1/fm/21-10/fm21-10.pdf)), with some modifications to work load and water intake. They also eliminate the work/rest cycle definitions.

On the surface, it looks pretty straight forward, but the problem is that unless you are meeting on a military base or otherwise have your WBGT provided to you, it is completely unusable. And why are the work/rest minutes removed? I mean, according to the army manual if you are doing hard work in heat condition 2, you should go 30 minutes on with 30 minutes of rest. The CAP manual? It doesn't say.

I realize that for the most part commanders need to use their own discretion in deciding if the weather presents a hazard, but it would be nice to have a guide to help us.
