Probably will be a cadet Knowledge Bowl question-

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein on Feb. 27 approved immediately updating a crucial verse of the official Air Force song to make it inclusive and to "reflect all of us and who we aspire to be."

Rather then reinventing and changing history, why not just come up with a new verse or song altogether?

One could certainly conjecture that the generic for those in the Air Force won't be "Airmen" much longer either.

Clearly our military and our culture have changed. We may not like it, but it has.

This is just another step towards a Gramscian "gender-neutral" and frankly atheistic world view.

I'll bite.

How does this reflect an atheistic world view?

Study Gramsci and you will know.

OK, I want that 5 minutes of Wikipedia time back.

Yes the military culture has changed over the years.
When I enlisted in 1974 the question from the Recruiter was "when was the last time you did drugs".
And the was a Drug Rehabilitation program. If you failed a "random" drug test you were normally given a second chance.
If you completed the program you could stay in.
These days if you fail a drug test they start processing you for discharge under less then honorable conditions.
Same thing with alcohol. Getting a DUI on base was not a career ender, now it is.
We have become the No Mistake Allowed military.

According to the last Air Force Magazine Almanac issue the Air Force about 24% female, so yeah we may want to acknowledge the quarter of the Air Force that is female.

But we are going gender neutral. So females are only acknowledged indirectly. Quite amusing if you think about it.

Just seems funny that after all the years of saying "men", instead of giving women credit and saying "men and women", we skip over them and go gender neutral.  In the rush to make it fair for the in-between and non-genders, women  don't get equal time.

RCAF already resolved this, sort of. "Leading Aircraftman" became "Aviator" in 2015.

Which is ironic since Aviator was the masculine form from the late 19th Century through the early 20th Century, with Aviatrix being the feminine. The single-use form of the modern era reverted back to the masculine "aviator."

Anyway, I don't really get what this topic has to do with Cadet Programs Management & Activities other than a quiz question.

I'll be the party pooper and say we should just close/lock the thread before this gets out of control. We're talking gender neutrality in the CP forum. Might as well make it into a uniform discussion.
